"I'm taking a huge step up (with Prescott)" - Khan

Amir Khan admits Breidis Prescott is a big step up - but one he needs to make.

The Commonwealth lightweight champion goes into the unknown on Sky Box Office this Saturday when he takes on the hard-hitting Colombian.

Khan, who has won all 18 professional fights, admits Prescott - himself undefeated - will pose the biggest threat he has faced, but is convinced he can beat him and move on to bigger and better things.

"It's going to be another step up - another big step up," he told Sky Sports.

"He's going to be strong, he's going to be coming forward, he doesn't want to lose his undefeated record, he doesn't want a loss in his career.

"It's going to be a big fight, but I know I'm going to go in there and win the fight. With the skills I've got, the handspeed I've got and the power I've got, I know I am going to win the fight.

"I've always had that ambition to be a world champion and a person who's a great fighter and fought the best - and a credit to boxing.

"That's what I want to be known as when I hang the gloves up. I want to be known as a great fighter, one of the best fighters whoever put the gloves on."

Khan has scoffed at suggestions his famed punching power is diminishing as he moves up in class, a suggestion that is backed up by devastating KO's of Graham Earl, Martin Kristjansen and Michael Gomez in his last four fights.

And although he has promised to be a little more circumspect having been dropped by Gomez last time out, the 21-year-old Olympic silver medallist is still adamant Sky Box Office viewers are in for another early finish.

"I am going to use my brain, work off the jab, work in and out and work the speed," he said. "I'm going to put in some big power shots to slow him down a bit and then put the pressure on him.

"It's going to be explosive and it's going to be exciting. All I will say to the fans is don't blink because you don't know when a knockout is going to come - and I don't want them to miss it."

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prescott is apparently a big step up from Limond, St Clair and Gomez. Who would have thought the Columbian domestic circuit was so strong?

On a side note will Khan also be one of the best fighters to 'ever put on gloves' as he claims? Will he be comparable to SRR, Armstrong and Langford?

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't mind the fight so much if a) it wasn't pay per view and b) it wasn't hyped as much as it is.

It is still fairly early in his career and for any other boxer I wouldn't complain. The problem is how he is being built up media wise and not matching it opponent wise.

If this wasn't pay per view I would still watch it. As it is I'll try and find it on the internet.

I do like watching him fight though. Something about the fact that each fight could bring a loss. It's exciting to wonder if he is going to get dropped. Though each time he does I find myself willing him to get back up.

I agree, if it wasn't on pay per view, then I might be more inclined to say, "yeah this is a small ("huge" ?!) step in the right direction for Khan, but putting this on PPV is just nonsense, completely unjustifiable and I hope there aren't enought idiots out there to buy something that is so fundamentally bad for boxing.

I still think Julio Diaz should be Khans next opponent...not that I want him to get killed or anything

It's completely legit and can be taken at face value

I was just logging on to check out Berbatov in his new shiney kit when I noticed it. News I broke on here months ago.

Khan would weather an early onslaught from Duran before schooling him through the middle of the fight and stopping him in the 11th :deal

    Trotter - where are you

You live virtually around the block from Khan. What are your thoughts?

    - Is Prescott a huge step up
    - Will Khan be one of the greatest to ever wear a glove

On the Sky hype up show he said he wanted to be known as the one of the best boxers ever to come out of England not the world.
After watching the sky build up thing I don't think he came out looking bad although the 'another big step up' comment is a bit odd to say but kind of true.
