http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/features/fifty IM SO SICK & TIRED OF SEEING OLD FIGHTERS BEING MENTIONED WITH THE LIKES OF RECENT FIGHTERS example why is this guy who was 17-4 ranked higher than de la hoya? i hate de la hoya but give this man his respect... hes done alot for the sport
I wouldnt dis any old fighters since i werent around that time buh ur right, for some reason alot of people think world champions of today shouldnt be allowed to whiped the old champions ass becuz they aint good enough. others treat old skool fighters like god.
well if you're referring to jim jeffries, it's a tough one. while i defintely agree that old fighters are overrated it's hard to criticize one way or another based on lack of evidence and fight footage. jim doesn't have a huge record but he faced a number of great, was a monster in his day and was only beaten WAAAAAAAAY past his prime by another overrated heavy. yes, i said jack johnson is way overrated. basically because of nat fleisher's considerable influence, boxers that he idolized (like jeffries and johnson) were given preferencial treatment by subsequent writers. ****, fleisher refused to call ali "ali" and talked about him like he was a bum. jeffries was great FOR HIS DAY but it's hard to judge objective by our standards as the only video available is the johnson fight, which was a joke.
I rate Jeffries and De La Hoya in and around the same clutch all time, there isn't a lot between them in my view. It's arguable. Unquestioably, Jeffries has more fights than he is credited with.
