Don't know if he is/was shot but his performance was likely his worst. His long ass shorts and is inability to keep his balance just made it look like something was up. Either way cotto got the victory so congrats to him.

Dude both of them didnt answer any of my question because they cant. im right. martinez has been down 5 of his last 6 fights. so there gonna say his knee was shot when he fought Macklin years ago?? its all stuip! Maybe that knee wasnt %100 but that knee doesnt block his face! if your not gonna keep your hands up against the best fighter you've ever faced then you need to take that A$$ whooping like a man

I called Sergio at 80% for a Cotto win while these guys said a 50% Serg would murder Cotto. I don't mind sticking by that and only giving Cotto 80% cred but, man, these guys be some cry babies trying give Cotto 0 cred. And I guess they have no definition of shot, it's just an excuse to be used for whatever purpose they see fit for them...very sad stuff.

His knees nearly gave out on him several times. He wasn't shot, he was just in no condition to fight. Healthy Sergio blasts Cotto out of there.

Lol.... I cant help the blind see something that should be self evident to anyone who should know the sport.

Do you comprehend the fact that martinez has to wait for more appointments with dr's to even find out if he will ever fight again right now? This is the same body taken into the cotto fight. Done to get the highest available payday sergio would see in his career.

How can I explain that a fighter who depended almost entirely on his athleticism to win vs top tier opponents, drops in ability and efficiency as a fighter when said athleticism has diminished significantly due to age, surgeries and constant serious injuries.

And if you think shot is just the oversimplified cliche of 'cant pull the trigger' instead of the myriad of other actual factors that play into a heavily declining fighter then it also makes sense you dont get how and why martinez is indeed done. Different fighters become shot for different reasons. Some yes because their reactions and ability to 'pull the trigger' is gone, others because their punch resistance erodes, others due to injuries, and in most aging fighters a jumbled mix of reasons. This is self evident.

A 40 year old fighter whos body is so worn out he probably wont fight again and i need to explain evidence that hes shot.

And I guess you somehow know what those dr. appts. are about?? If they cleared concerning his knees for the last fight then he'll be cleared again as there were no problems with them. It is not the same body taken into the Cotto fight, pretty sure we all saw him get brutalized and for all we know their doing MRI's on his brain (hope not) Fact is, even when your confronted with a logical argument you have a hard time debating you simply start speculating to meet your goals.

And sorry, but none of your shot definitions apply to Sergio anyway, he was pulling the trigger when he got rocked, his mobility decline coincided with him being rocked, and his punch resistancy actually looked pretty good. Shot is something just something you want to assume about him because you could never see this situation occurring, it is you that can't comprehend, and so just take and throw that wide ranging myriad of reasoning "shot" out there.

I'm not the only one who's made that comparison, try Emanuel Steward and Jim Lampley right in front of Roy Jones Jr. And that comparison is accurate, is he as good as Roy I didn't say that, but they fought in a similar fashion that relied heavily on their athleticism and when their natural ability began to falter, they became more susceptible to taking punishment, because they could no longer move the way they wanted to, its pretty easy to understand.

If your eyesight somehow missed the evidence, an Sportia article has already shown us that Maravilla's right knee was in pretty bad shape.
Already did a thread on this, here's my openening post.

People are gonna believe what they want to believe despite evidence and common sense. Worst discussion ive been in on here in a long time and i have myself to blame for getting sucked into it  goodnight all :good

I do wonder what the spin will be when martinez is forced to retire due to his knee or comes back and looks like **** vs an average fighter. Will be interesting to hear the bull**** that gets tossed around then about how he was still totally fine against cotto lol.

In other good news, mab, morales, vasquez and castillo are also not shot and should be winning another title any year now :good keep up the optimism gang, im liking it.

I agree Kirk. I still think he deserved the payday though, I would have done the exact same thing if I was in his position.
Damaged knee? Nooo... 100% guys, lets take this payd... euh... fight! :yep

I hear you man it was his biggest possible opportunity coming at the worst time of his career but he had to take it. And who knows maybe sergio felt he could win regardless. Idk....

But at near 40 and knowing your time is almost up i think most people would still take the fight.
