I think Floyd would have beaten Martinez.

Martinez also has a weak chin. He got floored by Chavez Jr, Macklin, Williams, Cotto, and Murray.

No, most people were saying Sergio wins if his knee holds up. It didn't.

Heres the thing about having a bad knee, its not obvious in what you do - but rather its telling in what someone with a bad knee doesn't do. That's why some people have been trying to paint the knee as not a factor, because they are looking for something visible with the working of the knee not looking at the fight and examing what Sergio couldn't do because of the knee compared to his past fights.

Movement, position and footwork first and foremost. Second is reaction time, because when it hurts like mad to move a body part its human nature to start trying to calculate if moving it is really necessary, which slows decision making.

Third and most overlooked is punching power. Good punches, start at the feet and legs. Throwing good punches requires working knees to sit down on your shots or even put some momentum into a hard jab. A big part of the reason Cotto had it so easy is because Martinez just didn't have anything for him in the power or "pop" (not exactly the same) department in this fight.

Sergio knee meant he had no ability to run/dodge, nor the ability to summon the power or pop to keep Cotto honest or off of him. That's pretty much the definition of sitting duck, and some people are trying to make way too much of a deal about Cotto winning this fight.

He was shot to sht in the Cotto fight...

    RIP Martinez's knees.

Should save his dirty boxing money for when he needs to pay for hip & knee replacements in his 60's.

Sergio took the prolonged beating because he like a lot of fighters doesn't have baby nuts, unlike Kneeguel his pride wouldn't let him quit or take a knee.

How does it feel to have to credit for a fight you know was not legit all in the name of femininely hate. I know you can't possibly feel like a man having to resort to that but with your "ohh, he's cute" posts left and right I'm sure being a man is not one your greatest concerns, lol.

Being manly is very important to me, why else do you think I gravitate towards fighters who are willing to take an immense beating and not go down like Margarito and Martinez, or EE guys and Mexicans, its because of the heart that they show.

But I'm also secure enough in my manliness to mock all of the guys who are soooo offended by gay people, by saying Sergio is good looking because it annoys them, I have no problem with gays whatsoever, what they do has no effect on me, I don't have the need to bash gay guys to make myself feel more manly.

wtf, some of you with these excuses are painfully pathetic. some of you are trying make these injuries to be 100x more severe than they were. the knee injuries he had are very very common with athletes.

I've had both of my knees done and they are 100% fine and were 3/6 months after my reconstructive surgeries. you are trying to make this out to be complete knee replacements. if he had both knees replaced then yes his knees could be a problem but he had ACL surgeries, no big deal. these are NOT career threatening in any way shape or form.

very common surgeries that had ZERO impact on the cotto fight. he was completely blown out because he was in with a fighter that was just so many levels above him in every single aspect of boxing.

cotto is an ELITE level fighter, a true elite fighter, SM has never been on the elite level. yes his legs were completely shot in the cotto fight, they were completely shot the eery hundredth of a second after cotto landed that first devastating left hook to SM head. he was completely shot from that power shot, he never recovered so his was on very shaky legs, shaky due to being in a constant state of being concussed.

the excuses used by fans on here are pathetic, most on here cannot accept that the superior fighter won. how is it surprising to some fans that the much better fighter won a fight ???

size means way too much to some on here.
size only means some when you have a huge huge size advantage or when the two fighters are of equal skill, then size will play a factor

Elite level fighters don't get shut out by Austin Trout. Healthy Martinez would have destroyed Cotto, he was literally beating up a cripple in there

The truth is Martinez is overrated. He's struggled against Euro-level Macklin and Murray. His best wins are Paul Williams and alcoholic Pavlik.

Sergio's knee was a factor; and he'd been showing signs of decreased mobility and punch resistance in any event. That said, Cotto fought a better fight than expected, given that he had been all but written off only two fights earlier after getting defeated by Trout.
