What if Zab Judah had a top-notch trainer? Don't talk about his heart, because he's talented enough to not to need to have his heart ever tested. THe Zab of today honestly looks like he goes through the motions. He doesn't seem like an intelligent fighter, as much as an instinctive fighter. If Zab had a top-notch training, he would actually know how to use his speed, reflexes for a proper defense (Mayweather / Whitaker). Also he would learn how to stick and move throwing more then ONE PUNCH AT A TIME. It's so frustrating to see a guy with his speed not utilize punches in bunches as a philosophy. Zab could throw 4-5 punches before his opponent can land anything and get out of there. In Zab vs. Clottey, yea Zab boxed well and was elusive but he still NEVER THREW PUNCHES IN BUNCHES!!!! (except for that nice flurry in round 8 ) Its like what in holy hell. Not the biggest waste of talent ever but close. We can only wonder......
I dont think its so much his dad training him. I think Zabs problem is he gives up so much in his head. Always searching for the easy way out. Although a better trainer would help.
Well, he's not the biggest puncher in the world, and if he insists on not throwing combo's its understandable why he gets frustrated. It's obvious he doesn't see the opportunities inside the ring that are there for other-worldly speedy guy like him, and I can only think thats a result of poor training.
Yeah, or Chalrey Burley, or Marvin Hagler, or Jack Dempsey...there are loads and loads and loads of guys with "ATG" tagged to their name who had ****/no trainers. You work with what you got. He had speed and power, that should be enough.
Arguably part of good training, Especially when your trainer is your father. Subpar trainer, subpar father. Mentality translates into the physical in boxing. I mean his dad is most likely living through him, and if he's not a good dude.... Legitimate point, or no?
honestly i hear people say this alot about Yoel Judah....saying its his fault and he should get a different trainer, but honestly.....i dont beleive thats what it is, i beleive, no...i know it's all Zab's fault if you watch his fights and listen to Yoel's advice in the corner he's saying "Zab you need to get out there and throw punches.... Zab you gotta let yo hands go, zab more punches....Zab double and tripple up on the jab... Zab throw combinations... Zab work off your jab.....zab dont just pull straight out... Zab dont just lay in front of him, give him angles.... Zab hit and roll out, hit and roll out..." he's telling him all the right things, Zab just doesnt listen for whatever reason, and he must train him hard at training camp, look at his body, look how sharp he is during the first few rounds.....honestly, Zab Judah is my favorite fighter, and he will remain my favorite fighter untill he retires, but.....he's a damnn idoit, who choses not to win, i've yet to see Zab be defeated by another fighter, i only see Zab defeat his self by not listening to what Yoel Judah says....and just being a ****in idiot......but whatever, it cant be helped, Zab will forever be Zab...it's too late in his career for it to change for him
Part of it is Yoel. Its true that he will tell him to throw more, but its the most obvious advice, any knowledgeable fan watching the fight could tell him the same thing. The most crucial work is done during camp in preparing the fighter. It leads one to question what the hell Yoel is working on during camp.
Was it the usual "you gotta throw more punches Zab! bam bam bam boom bap bam" while shadowboxing in his face?
Zab is talented, but he's had his bad moments. He's a good fighter in the deepest division in boxing today. If Zab was 247 instead of 147, and 6'7" instead of 5'7", he'd decapitate Wlad, no matter who his trainer was.
Yoel Judah guided his son to multiple championship's.. I say mission accomplished and a great career. You can't win them all, when you fight everyone. Nobody can take that away from Zab, He is a warrior.
I don't understand where you people come off acting like Zab accomplished nothing in his career. The man was a 140 champ and the undisputed WW champ. Not many people have matched those accomplishments. Fact is he is a small WW in a generation of big WW and he is not going to be that effective in the weight class. He is not a waste of talent and he fought a hell of a fight against Clottey that I wish we could have seen taken to its conclusion, but we couldn't because of terrible reffing.
