Remember when a past prime Morales fought and kicked Pacquiao's ass 3.5 months after losing in grueling war to Barrera?

Why are you so invested in using excuses for Kovalev?

You guys have your head in the sand if you think this wasn't brought up before the fight.

Canelo fought an already damaged and faded Kovalev who was 2-3 punches from being stopped by Yarde and retiring. Then Kovalev had 3 weeks before starting camp for Canelo. On top of that, Canelo had a crippling rehydration clause (his third imposed on an opponent) in place.

    BTW...

I don't normally like excuses, but in this case it was a little too close. Especially since Kovalev was hurt and that usually takes time to heal.. When Hearns was hurt against Kinchen , he didn't fight Ray until June 12 7 months and 8 days later. .. Kinchen was incidentally 31 years ago tonight on Nov. 4, 1988. I remember that fight and watching it . Well had Hearns fought Leonard in the same time span as Kovalev to Canelo from Yarde. Hearns Leonard 2 would have been January 13, 1989... That would have been close. Nov. 4, 1988 Kinchen knocks down Hearns and Hearns fights Ray on January 13, 1989.. Too close. It might have made a huge impact on the outcome. I am shocked Ray didn't want that, but a big fight like that needed build up.

So in my mind the Kovalev/Canelo fight was made a little too close, and in light of the fact the fight went 11 rounds and was at the end of the round, then one more month or two rest for Kovalev means he probably would have gone the full 12 rounds and maybe edged the later rounds more being more fresh. So it could have made a difference. And I am not into excuses. But this fight was too soon.
