Ofcoarse they could juice it up ppv wise and always have it planned out were champions fight 3 times a year like having 2 nd and third place fight later for Number 1 contender Imagine hw tourney 1 overeem vs 8 mark hunt 2 Cain vs 7 barry 3 Mir vs 6 Cormier Barnett winner 4 carwin vs werdum At least have 1 gran prix a year for a weight class Or use fuel tv and fx too have tournaments with lower ranked fighters winner gets a number 1 contender shot Even 4 man tourneys too decide number 1 contender ship Mma needs tourneys
With injuries and the fact the stakes are so much higher in the world of mma now i doubt u could run a proper tourny like what u suggested without alot of chopping and changing of fighters. Tourny could take 2yrs to complete.Screw that. But i like your idea....I love tournaments...
Bellator has a perfect format for building up prospects. Unfortunately, they have a strict championship clause that results in top level fighters fighting below their skill level. It would be fantastic if Zuffa bought Bellator and kept it around, so that tournament winners would be absorbed into the UFC. You could even dissolve Strikeforce and move their roster (outside of the big stars) to Bellator. Very unrealistic scenario, but it would be cool.
Why not make Strikeforce as breeding ground for prospects and UFC will be a battleground for contenders only. Strikeforce will held events with Bellator concept instead. yeah it's farfetched but the ida is there. Much like in pro-wrestling, Ohio Valley (not sure) is the developmental territory and the guys who improves dramatically goes to WWE shows. So guys like Luke Rockhold should be in UFC already and banging heads with the likes of Munoz, Belfort etc.
It pretty much is. They, more often than not, employ a winner Vs winner policy, with the winner of that fight moving on to a bigger test until, eventually, someone has established themselves as a viable contender. It's a business and booking policy that works. Bellator's works because their roster is low on real quality.
