A guy from my gym had a fight on Friday. His defense was a little sloppy so he took a right hand pretty hard and got a standing 8 count in the first round. Never the less he finished the fight and lost the decision.

Anyways, after wards he went into the locker room and passed out. Had to be air lifted to a hospital. Ended up having brain surgery (his brain was bleeding) Its pretty gruesome. And serves as a reminder to us all how dangerous the sport is, and how important defense is.

  6. That sucks. Many advocates of boxing will try convince the public that boxing is harmless and injuries are mostly superficial. But times like this remind you it just isn't always cuts and bruises.

    Bst wishes for your mate.

I got told and always sticks in my mind is that your defense (hands up) is your lifeline. It should never get to where you need to just put your hands up but just in case.

Boxing is a dangerous brutal sport and anyone says its harmless of injuries dont occur often is a dangerous lying *****. You take this sport on and you should be fully aware..... however i would say this isnt the only sport that this is true in. The saving grace in boxing i think is atleast you know that is the aim of the game. Where many sports you are at far greater risk of injury and death in my oppinion but you are lulled into a false sense of security as it is not an intentional part of that sport. ie horse racing or equestrian sports. Rugby is another good example!
