    Then look no further;

Beautiful counters, marvelllous head and lateral movement, sharp combos and solid chins?

This is a perfect example of a fight where the punches that don't land are as impressive as the ones that do.

I like Rigo and have done for a while, but we need a bit of perspective here and this is just the fight to give it.

When I see people asking for fights to watch, and others saying they're going to watch or particularly enjoy certain match ups,I can't believe there's not more love for this, especially given the recent Rigomania.

If you like it a bit more refined than Rios-Alvarado,then watch this.

There's no doubting the brilliance of Toney, but give that he is the percieved(correctly) defensive master, the way McCallum slips the southpaw jab at times is up there with most of Rigo's best moves on Saturday.

Look out for a young Steve Smoger and Marvin's annoying habit of saying "McCullum"

    And it's a 115-113 for me.McCallum does just enough,but I'm biased.
And Toney is quite magnificent at times.Annoys me to think what he could've been.

Do you notice the way McCallum tries to place his feet and moves counter-clockwise to try and neutralise Toney's jab Bogo?

I'm not disputing Toney's brilliance here, but as a big fan of McCallum,I think he performs brilliantly against what sadly turned out to be prime Toney.

I still disagree about the "solid chin."

Donaire couldn't land anything on Rigo all night. One of a handful of flush punches he did land put Rigo down.

    I guess we'll find out.

    Toney was great.

A great fight with both action and skill. It's been a while since I've watched it and I'm at work now, but will definitely pull this up this evening.

The solid chin reference was an aside.I was just pointing out that the fight had everything the new crop of "purists" should enjoy.

Much as I enjoyed Rigo's performance and was rooting for him,I think some of the outrageous statements made since Saturday need some perspective Jeff, and this for me,is a good way to do it.

Amazing fight, one of my favourite's. Had Toney winning a close decision.

I don't mind anyone bringing up James Toney in sweet science display, but there is a MAJOR area of boxing where Rigo is light years ahead of Toney, and that is footwork and ring generalship. Toney was supernatural in a specific area of boxing style. Rigo and Toney fight nothing alike. They both make guys miss, but in entirely different ways.

great fight! toney made the body snatcher miss plenty of punches. while i'd say both are very highly skilled....i think rigondeaux is 2nd in line after toney....then MM...then donaire.

I'd say light years is overcooking it a little bit,but with the right fights,I'd perhaps conced in 2 years time.

But Rigo probably won't face anyone half as good as McCallum on the slide.

I watched that fight on Saturday, and enjoyed it so much but I thought the main problem on here would be people not appreciating how good he was on the night.

    Boy,did I get that one wrong.:patsch

But I suspect there are many who allegedly knew Rigo would pull it off who actually never rated him at all.
But I have no complaints with a fighter winning new fans, especially someone as skilled as Rigo, but some of the claims being made on this forum(not yours BTW) have been ridiculous.
Especially on the thread about Barrera and Morales.I knew some people would ruin one of the best performances of the last few years.
    Predictably unpredictable.:-(

I gave my predictions there on the rigo/morales/mab/pac thread, just based on styles what I think I've seen from them all. I think he'd beat Barrera because Barrera fights more squared up, isn't lighting on his feet, and wouldn't be able to counter punch a supremely legitimate counter punching virtuoso like Rigo, especially out of the southpaw stance. Morales is always an odd one and I said 50/50 because Morales is freaking huge at 122 and had odd angles of attack, leaped into his opponents with unorthodox punch angles, and had potent power at 122. Pacquiao would perhaps give him the most fits due to having the athletic ability in the footwork department, and straighter, explosive shots.

I'm a James Toney fanatic too, so I feel you about some of his fights. Some of the things that James Toney can do in the ring, would honestly be too much for a lot of fighters in history and it definitely an aspect of the sweet science demonstrated at its highest level.

I may have been stretching it a bit with the "light years" thing, but I see Toney and Rigo as vastly different fighters from one another, both in which I equally respect, stylistically.
