Brian Magee is the most intelligent and experienced fighter Bute has fought and he might even be the best. Putting him up there with Bika and Andrade is not a big stretch. Brian Magee's performance, I would say, was B- to B level (borderline world class). He had a good strategy and he implemented it well. He is brave, he is tough to the body and to the chin. He is well conditioned, has many good shots and he selects them well, with good timing. Many rounds were close and Magee won one or two rounds too. He didn't win them because he was cheating either - he didn't try dirty stuff in there - he was clean and honest, but he was smart too! He never gave up when he was hurt. He didn't go wild looking for an exit or for a miracle. He remained calm and collected and came back with effective combinations and punches, patiently. And don't forget that the Bute that he fought was an improved version, in top shape, who gave one of his best performances. I would say Bute's performance was B to B+. At times, he performed at B+ level. What an impressive package! What a good person too! He is charming, modest, friendly and wise. Very good for boxing and a great example as a person too. Would be great to see Brian back against a Stieglitz or Sartison, Balzsay, Brinkley or Miranda or Berrio, or even against Bika or Andrade. I don't think he needs a tune-up, but if he does, there's always Allan Green.
Close fight for the first few rounds then Bute became more expansive. His speed/power and punch variation was far too much for Magee who's a competent borderline world class fighter. Its a crime Bute has not faced better opposition as I thinks he's the most talented at sm. He just needs to prove it.
So you're saying Magee was Bute's best opponent to date and he was "borderline world class"? Then that would mean Bute hasn't faced a real world class SMW to date..... sounds about right :yep
before the fight its "oh magee the bum, magee got spanked by froch (he didnt)" then afterwards its "hey brian magee is a pretty tough guy! who knew?!" try listening to us irishmen next time
Good speed , nice power good bodypuncher. Like I read somewhere a bit similar to Bute but inferior in every department. I was more impressed about his personality. A great guy, made a fan out of me.
I did say all along that it wasnt that bad a fight and made a thread saying so. All that happend was people said they didnt know who Magee was and without knowing him said he was a bum
Magee is a classy domestic level UK fighter that gave Bute fits for the first half of the fight, even at age 35. I can't disagree with your post in its entirety, but Magee is not a special fighter. I cant wait for Bute to grow a pair and fight someone good, then we'll all see this come to an end.
he has a massive reputation for being nothing short of a gentleman, which is why some of the **** being spewed about him pre-fight made me kinda angry
...without the exception of Bika and Andrade, he hasn't. But then, he couldn't have had. The following were unavailable/ didn't want to fight Bute when they had the chance/ Bute didn't fight them when he had the chance: Froch - B level Ward - B to B+ level Kessler - B level, these days Dirrell - B level Johnson - B level Abraham - not sure he's a solid world class fighter at SMW... but he's close to it in any case. ...anyway - this thread is about Brian Magee, not about Bute's resume.
Would you not say that Magee performed better than ever last night, though (as one might expect, given the challenge and the stake?) The fact that Magee is the perfect gentleman cannot be disputed. Very impressive human being. Did you see him wanting to take pictures with Bute after the fight? Pure class. A cut above. His friends are very lucky.
