Is weak chin a genetic issue or it could be improved by training ? I have to list some very good or even excellent active boxers with soft chin : Rigondeaux, Gamboa, Khan, Pacquiao, Broner, W. Klitschko, Fury. What do you think ?
Pacquiao and Broner do not have weak chins. Pacquiao has been dropped twice in like 16+ years (by the same guy). Broner was dropped by Maidana who hits like a mule. By your logic, anyone who has met the canvas is glass chinned.
Pac and broner dont have weak chins You can do chin exercises and make it strong, but there will be a genetic barrier. You can see here khan was training his chin, but that never helped against canelo. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/WGTyTftKtSE/hqdefault.jpg A lot of it has to do with having your chin tucked in too, like golovkin. Golovkin has been rocked, it's just most of the hits he takes are to the forehead, where is strong neck muscles absorb the shots
There seems to be a thing on here that if you're not James Tony you have a weak chin, unbelievable like the other guy isn't allowed to drop you or something. Amid Khan compounds things by literally running onto the end of shots.
dont know how packeow made your list. he has eaten plenty of tough leather ...his KO loss to Marquez was a near perfect shot, and his previous KO losses were more of a "beaten up" variety i believe
OK, I will partly change my opinion, so, Pacquiao is/was an excellent boxer with an average chin. Broner is a very decent boxer with a weak chin, nobody can convince me the opposite...
This is not a proof...He has not a good chin, it is obvious. I don't like his behaviour inside and outside the ring, but I am unbiased. Again, AB has quite solid skillset but his chin is a soft one.....
Yes, you can improve it. Strengthing your neck can help. But increasing a fighter's confidence is another story. In boxing, sometimes one part of the anatomy helps the other. If both are worked on, a fighters ability to take a shot can improve somewhat. Of course having good conditioning helps.
