Is it me or does Matthysse look like he has improved skill wise. Earlier in his career he looked more wild. In his latest performance his punches seemed sharper, straighter and more controlled. He varied up his punches to the body and the head. He's a power puncher but he was not head hunting like many power punchers fall into. He used hooks, straights, uppercuts. He showed nice variety is his game, more so than when he first came onto the scene.
The main difference I’ve seen in his game, since the Judah and Alexander fights, is his aggressiveness. He’s always seemed like a boxer-puncher - picking his shots carefully and not just rushing in. But now, after experiencing those robberies, someone’s stoked some fire up his ass. He’s far more vicious and in-your-face now. I think he's took on the mentality of never leaving it in the judge's hands.
Exactly this :deal He wasn't fighting a American on his home soil this time, but he does anything to stop his opponent or at least keep on going towards the final bell. That mentality is the only positive thing that comes out all those blatant robberies.
He has always been pretty sharp and accurate with his timing and punches, but he just starts a lot earlier than he used to. He used to warm up in the first half and take over the second half of a fight. Since he has been so close to victories because of his early slow starts, he's learned from it. Now he comes out ready to take your soul from the opening bell. The dude has a granite chin, pretty good stamina, extremely heavy hands, very good timing, and some decent ring generalship. He is only getting better and that is the scary thing. Mathysse is a beast and a true nightmare for any fighter. I am glad he didn't turn up on the 140 scene when my boy Cotto was reigning there.
He has always been accurate considering the way he fights, but when you're throwing a high volume of power punches opponents with certain styles are going to make you seem wilder. (hence why there would seem to be an improvement from his efforts against slicker and quicker types like Judah and Alexander to more recently against Soto and Ajose)
He's definitely improvin nearly the finished article, he fought Judah n Alexander n arguably got robbed then he fights another southpaw, after learnin from fightin 2 slick southpaws and gettin robbed there's no way he was lettin this go decision
The main differences i've seen are people actually recognising his skill. He beat Both Judah and Alexander. Knocked both of them suckers down. Everybody scared of Matthysse @140.
If he had pressed Judah and Alexander from the start the way he pressed Ajose, the judges wouldn't have had a chance to rob him.
:think I wouldn't have ever thought to compare the two, but they are indeed both wrecking machines who physically and psychologically eradicate the opposition by just ripping the **** out of them with nail-on-the-head bombs. :good
