:rofl I'd love to see Atlas with Khan i can imagine him in corner and his analogy's. That would make for funny thread. Teddy's spot on a lot of time but i don't see Khan developing the way he'd want him to Scotty. Teddy's a perfectionist and sorta guy who would see Khan not listening plus team Khan wouldn't like Teddy.
Now why on earth do you think Team Khan wouldn't like Teddy? If Teddy thought he wasn't paying attention, he'd bitchslap him senseless in that corner. Khan needs to get the idea that he can think for himself whipped out him!
That's just a negative attitude to have. At 25 years old, he's no old dog just yet. No one's expecting him to turn into Ray Leonard, just learn to have some inside game, improve his footwork and pick his shots better instead of throwing those flurries. Whether it happens or not is another matter, but it's not unreasonable for his fans to expect some improvement in his game since he's only 25 years old. Remember, he was written off after Prescott. He's being written off by people now, who think he won't improve further and this is his peak. A lot of this talk is probably just an emotional reaction to Khan acting like a sore loser after his last fight and generally being irritating. His attitude will be a worry for his fans, since he seems to blame everything except his own lack of skills. A change in attitude could elevate his game one again. If only he treats the Peterson loss as a wake up call, instead of crying. This is the problem. As for the Hearns comparison. Hearns was just so smooth, fluid, and natural. He looked like he was born in the ring. Khan's as stiff as a board. Stylistically, they're not alike. Hearns' jab for one, was like a cobra strike. Khan's I don't know how to describe. Scotty321, Interesting you bring that up about Roach, because I noticed in the Peterson fight that Roach was not his usual self. Something didn't seem right. I didn't read too much into it but the next day someone said the same thing. I don't know about changing coaches, but I see no reason why a fighter can't work with another coach on a consultancy type basis. Roach is good at what he does, but if there's a coach who can help Khan with fighting on the inside, then maybe he should consider working with him.
Atlas would be a good choice, like Scotty I think Roach is nearing the end unfortunately. Not sure the backslappers will appreciate his forthrightness though, whereas Roach probably sees Asif Vali and Saj as a doddle given the Pacquiao circus. ''I don't know what job he does, but Manny likes him, so.....'' [giggles]
Cos Teddy would tell them how it is! , Could you imagine them trying to mug him off. I can imagine the fear in there faces when Teddy goes New York on them punks!. Verbal tirades that have children crying and Team Khan looking petrified. Analogies that leave them baffled and scared .
Not a lot to add from me. Amir has no inside offense at all and his general strategy inside just leads to the other guy piling up points and Khan taking shots. The blueprint is there for all to see on how to beat Khan as shown by LP and at times by MM. He has shown some ability at times in throwing the uppercut and body shots and so hopefully he can adapt to throwing these on the inside, otherwise his opponents will have nothing to fear once inside of Khan's straight punches. Either that or he needs to learn some kind of defence where he can tie up his opponent or roll away and out. I would also like to see him sit down on his punches a lot more. Imo, when he does, he has very decent power but way too often he is up on his toes throwing pitty-pat punches that do little to no damage and allow hi opponent to walk him down. An obvious way to stop a guy getting inside is to discourage him from walking onto a big shot.
Aye I know Teddy isn't exactly what TK would want but that's their tough ****! I think we only know half of what TK get up to. You can bet if Teddy got involved, we'd know a lot more! It would be fun to see Khan take Sauls job on FNFs for a while too :yep This content is protected
Yeah, he doesn't have a ''stay there'' punch. Lots of fighters are crap/not very good on the inside - in fact that's one potential comparison with Tommy Hearns - but it doesn't take a genius to work out that it's pointless trying to bumrush him unless you've got a cast iron chin. Khan can be walked down relatively easily, and the opponent knows that he's not going to be laid out.
Some good suggestions over here, I hope Team Khan read this and realise there are so many things which may need changing or ironing out. They will probably realise too late or even worse once its too late then have some more excuses for the failure of Khan. It's a shame because I think he has the potential of being the best recent British boxer but the unwillingness to change might be his downfall.
Sadly won't happen, there's a difference with defeat to Prescott and Peterson. Prescott there could be no silly excuses but the aftermath of Peterson defeat has really shown they are pinning blame on outside influences and overlooking the fact Khan created so many problems himself in fight. The next day after he lost to Prescott he was in gym, this time i get impression he wasn't and the attitude is a lot different. Plus his Team see £££/$$$ lost and are trying desperately to salvage it.
Sad but true. Believe it or not there has been at least one member of Team Khan that has said to Khan that you didn't perform the way you should have and deep down he does know it. (Lips are sealed)
Where to start. He needs to learn when to throw his combinations and when to sit behind the jab. He needs to learn when to attack and when to get on his bike. He needs to stop circling his opponent so wide to avoid inviting pressure. He needs to learn some basic inside manouvres to allow himself time to defend, attack and to sidestep to create angles. He needs to stop being so reckless and excitable, he needs a trainer who will teach him the art of refinement and consistency, someone like Steward or dare i say Booth.
