Im 23 and new to boxing although boxing has been my favourite sport all my life iv just never had the confidence or bottle to join a gym so stuck to football.

I use my heavy bag most nights (probably picked up alot of bad habits)!! I sometimes feel like my hand speed is sluggish and being right handed my left hook feels akward to throw. whats the best way to improve my hand speed ?

    Practice.

And no offence but if you loved boxing so much you wouldn't give a **** and go for it instead of doing something else.

The only way to get faster is to practice fast. I know that sounds weird but it's true. Also work out with resistance bands, basically you want to tune your arms like how a sprinter would tune his legs

Get to a gym and get shadow boxing with correct technique, move onto padwork and double end bag, it's about getting the technique and timing right.

After looking at the research paper on bat speed that I posted earlier I was thinking about bands but in another way. Face the wall the bands are tied too and use the bands to in effect lighten your hands and see if it would have the same effect as warming up with a light bat has on bat speed.

By joining a gym and learning proper technique.

Just go there, introduce yourself, and sign up. It's not an intimidating world what's stopping you. In fact it's quite a simple one, you get respect if you do what you're told without whining.

    :good

Yea, boxers are the nicest bunch of people I've ever met. Even the trainers are cool. Just listen to what they say, and work hard.

And yea, like RDJ says, don't whine too much.

LOL at not being man enough to step inside a boxing gym at 23 years old. Just swallow your pride and know they people a lot younger and smaller than you can easily knock you out cold and the rest will be easy.

Use Glyn Rhodes Gym, but do a lot from Home now dangerousity. Same scrap. Those routines work, both Heavyweights, one 19st the other 17 i/2st. The smaller one was world silver medalist at Karate, try to improve his punch technique.
