I know vaguely that strengthening neck muscles (eg. by doing ?neck bridges?) it can make you more able to take a shot Can anyone recommend me some exercises/tips? I think I'm too easily wobbled, especially compared to when I see some of the stronger guys fight. Is it just simply strengthening the neck muscles allowing you to resist the force of the punch? Thanks
The neck is only part of the equation to solving your chin issues, most good trainers will tell you, that you mental attitude and defense is the biggest reasons why fighters get rocked by punches. I myself try to hold a high guard, making sure my chin is covered. The best thing to do is practice keeping your chin tucked in when you throw a punch, when you throw out your jab, if your doing it right, you should feel shoulder touching your cheek and chin, try doing this in front of the mirror, and make it part of your shaddow boxing routine, the more you practice keeping your chin tucked into your chest, when you throw a punch, the less you will feel yourself getting rocked. You might also want to try sparring with bigger guys, this will help you deal better with taking punches, and by the time you fight guys your own weight, you should feel more confident in your ability to take a punch.
I think the theory is that if your neck is stronger your head will not move as far or as fast when you get hit. Which means less rotation of the brain relative to the skull.
you could try going to a hypnotherapist and having them convince you that you are impervious to head shots
the sparring bit isnt necessarily true. the first few times i sparred i got 'rocked' a few times more because i was inexperienced and freaked out and didnt know how to react. now i can take the same punch from those people that 'rocked' me in the past perfectly fine
if you've got a bad chin the best thing you can do is improve your strength is used to have a good chin but i got put on me arse by a international was sparin now when i get hit by ppl that fight more my level my legs feel weak
yea improving strength and defense will always help. my point is that a shaky chin, or the illusion of one can be remedied with more experience and knowing how to react. at first anybody's gonna figure "o **** that hurt what now", but give it time and its more "well that hurt, big deal"
thanks. so you think you're chins weaker now? honestly i think the knockdown might've messed with your head a little, same as for sheff-fighter confidence plays a bigger role in chin than people give it credit for. does anything like that go through your head right before or while you're sparring? try sparring with a clear mind and see if you're more true to your old form
i think ur right it probably is a mental thing i was also blaming dehydration 4 a while so i upped my water and through out my sweatsuit thanks m8:good
yea no problem. dehydration could be a big part of it too, ive never tried a sweat suit but unless you're trying to cut quick weight idk why you'd wanna wear one. i imagine working out in pools of your own sweat is just gross
wernt told the reason my coach just said the lad your fightins pulled out i asked y and he laughed n said he must be scared of ye
Why have you jumped straight into saying I should consider quitting? You have no idea the extent of how big a problem it is from my post, how long I've boxed for etc etc. How on earth are you considering I quit? If you 'either have it or you don't.. and should quit", you're basically telling me the best pro's in the sport could take the shots that they do right from day 1, well, you must realise that's ridiculous. I'd hate to be a newer guy asking you for advice at your gym!
