I just realized that as great of a fighter as Floyd Mayweather is, he will only be remember as nothing more than just a great fighter during his time. He will never reach the ATG status that he truely belive he deserves. In 30 year when a new great fighter is being praised, can you inmagine boxing commentators saying something along this line: This guy is great. He's truely the Sugar Ray Robinson of his time, the Muhammad Ali of his time, the Roberto Duran of his time, the Manny Pacquiao of his time, the Floyd Mayweather Jr. of his time. The Floyd Mayweather Jr. part just doesn't sound right. I just can't see a boxing commentator saying that line: The Floyd Mayweather Jr.of his time. As great of a fighter as Floyd is, he just hasn't taken himself toward the path of being an ATG.

This troll is a sneaky one. :good

That being said, I somewhat agree with you. But one more big win (like beating Pac or Martinez) puts Floyd into that sphere. Not equal to an Ali but up there as an ATG.

I think the comparison might be made in reference to Floyd's amazing defensive abilities.

I truely believe Floyd time has passed. His chance was back in 07 when he sould have fought Cotto and Margarito. ATG status are being judged by risky fight, fight that you have a good chance of losing. Those fight would have given Floyd a good resume had he took them and won it.

I agree. I cant really picture anyone would say.

"Hey Floyd Mayweather jr was great. Remember all his big fights vs great fighters like Boldamir and Zap judah"

    Just doesnt sound right

Mayweather was proberly one of the most talanted boxers the world had ever seen but he was to affraid to lose his 0.

He will be another Sven Ottke and that is really sad

He'll be remembered in the same light as a Pernell Whitaker. That's as far as it will go.

Whitaker is considered top 30 ATG by many so it's not that bad.

BUT if he were to fight Pacquiao and be in a war and then move up to fight Sergio Martinez we could say 'remember Floyd Mayweather? He fought Pacquiao at a time when Pacquiao was beating up all these guys much bigger than him with his offensive awesomeness and lil Floyd used amazing defence and boxing brilliance to neutralize it all. It was the two best fighters of the era against each other and he won. Just like Leonard Hearns 1 or Ali and Frazier. Then he went up and fought a skilful southpaw who outweighed him by 15lbs and had was taking names and guess what he won that too. What a great figher Floyd was'..........I wish. I wish Mayweather would do what his god given talent enables him to do. Every fight he could POSSIBLY take he could win and win handily. He is quite evidently the most gifted pure fundamental boxer around today. He just needs to stretch those skills against the biggest challenges. Yet we are kept waiting....

Depends what he does in the near future. At the moment he won't be held in high regard due to his level of opposition and lack of ambition.

He will be known as "that twat who threw fake money at fans"

Don't be silly. Floyd whoops emmanuel's AZZ without letting emmanuel fighting emmanuel's kind of fight.

Why would anyone say the Floyd Mayweather Jr of his time? There's only one Floyd Mayweather. Premium **** doesn't need to get cheapened and degraded by unnecessary quantity.

To be honest its going to be different ... Mayweather's era is more advanced as far as technology goes .. so 30 years from now he might be viewed the same way he is viewd now ... u can watch every floyd fight and we can't say that about Louis or Robinson or Armstrong or Pep and ect ....... so we have no choice but to go by what the media says ..

Mayweather is an ATG and will be remembered as one ... the film will always be there
