Just think of how Cotto's career would be right now had Margarito not used plaster. That did a lot of damage to Cotto at the time.

 

Martinez relied strictly on speed and athleticism alot like Roy Jones and when those were gone, we knew how that went.

 

Not to discredit Cotto, but there was always gonna be huge questionmarks over whether Maravilla still had it - a year ago Martinez struggled with Murray who has since looked poor against journeymen. I guess it was only a matter of time and Cotto got the timing right.

Wonder what the new 'lineal MW champ of the world' gonna do with his 'title' now?

Can't help but sound bitter, and it's not a reflection on Cotto - who I've always liked and respected as a fighter, but if a genuine MW doesn't get a shot at that title -and we all know Golovkin is the #1 contender - it ceases to have any meaning in my eyes (not that anyone gives a damn what I think of course).

 

Wasn't shocking at all. I had expected him to get stopped. He was nearing 40 and his legs were blown out.

It was clear against Murray not only were his legs gone but his power too. Murray could of got him outa there if he had stepped it up

He was never going to hold off Cotto throwing arm shots. The power comes from the legs and he could get no leverage on his shots.

I didn't think it would be as bad as it was though. He could barely even throw his straight left and one of the times he did caused him to fall over.

Cotto was good and i never bought into the claims of him being a shot fighter, but there are not many names at MW , if any he could do that to.
GGG would eat him for breakfast.

Really? You knew Tyson might lose to Douglas but didn't know Martinez had knee problems? Martinez even told everyone he had problems walking, let alone fighting.

And regardless of that, I would pick prime Cotto over prime Martinez any day of the week, just based on styles. The fight was a complete mismatch and wipeout. Prime for prime, it would be 117-111 Cotto.

You were shocked by this???? Have you seen Martinez last four fights going into the Cotto fight? Didnt you know about all the injuries he had or that hes a 40 year old fighter with the legs of a 70 year old man? If you were shocked by this you clearly havent been following Martinez lately if you had you know this was coming.

Keep using that excuse. Post fight, everyone was so shocked they justified it by saying ODLH would get beaten by any top 10 WW and so would Pac. Pac went on to prove, he was just that good.

And if ODLH was shot, he was shot from the Floyd fight too, when he took him to SD. Afterall, thats when Roach decided, Pac can beat him, when he trained Oscar for that fight.

 

Sign me in in that shock list as I was expecting to read news from Cotto in the local Hospital today not to say the worst. The guy has a pair of balls, let me tell ya, HOF immediately!
