He's beaten plenty of decent fighters going back to Anderson, Smith and DeGale at domestic level. Cleaned up in Britain. Then he fought decent international opposition like Sierra, Glengoffe, Alcoba and Rebrasse. And challenged Froch twice. Not bad in 23 fights! Cut the ginger lad some slack.

    No he isn't.

Boxrec have him at 23 and that's probably generous.

He still has Rachid Jkitouproblems as well.

    i think you're being pedantic

Groves fought the no.2 in the WORLD and did really well, was in control of 80% of both fights. The Grove's that turned up for Froch 1 would have beat most top 15 SMW in the World that night.

So do you agree he hasn't ever beat a top 15 SMW in his career? That was point of thread, not saying he could beat one, but fact he hasn't beat one after being a pro for along time isn't great for a so called elite world class SMW is it?

80% of both fights, well Froch controlled the second fight, was in front on the scorecards, and more I,portably in a championship 12 round contest controlled the end of the fights

The OP is probably factually correct here. Whether it says more about the rankings than Groves is another issue.

He has been matched well, no doubt - but he deserved his shot and narrowly missed taking his chance. The thing that everyone can see coming will happen. Froch vacates the IBF, DeGale and Groves square off for the vacant title. That's a fight that sells.

Groves has looked terrible since being wiped out by Froch.
I don't know if thats down to Paddys training, or what, but the fact is he is looking sluggish, his timing is off, and he looks fatigued.

what does thread say, neutral rankings ! When was WBA neutral? I remember Scott Harrison fighting his mandatory for his world title Kedebe, who was number 1 challenger at WBO and he was worse than a journeyman, so governing body rankings are useless generally. So in other words Gonzalas was not a top 15 in the context of the thread?
