No, actually you dont. You give it to who won more rounds.

The idea that a chalenger has to "take" the championship is a myth from the No Decision or News Paper decision days. Where if the champion made it to the final bell he would remain champion.

I think in the rules you're supposed to give it to whichever boxer won the fight. Not sure about that though, just what I thought.

bottom line is nobody won DECISIVELY. that decision could've went to marquez and been justified. nacho told marquez he was winning. marquez went conservative when he should of been racking up points. de la hoya made the same mistake against trinidad and the same decision was rendered.

It wasn't close, Giving Pac more than 4 rounds is generous, IMO he got his ass kicked and he, Roach and Arum all know it.

you score it round by round. apart from number of landed punches (strong or not, but excluding slap and backhand) on SCORING AREA, effective aggressiveness, ring generalship, and defense are also considered by judges in professional fights.

anyone who scored the fight at least 8 - 4 either for pac or jmm should consider watching it again under judges perspective.

round 9 was difficult to score.

Rd 1 - Pac left to the nose was diff
    Rd 2- JMM
Rd 3- Pac - stellar right hooks
    Rd 4 - Pac
    Rd 5 - JMM
Rd 6 - Pac - more crisp rights
    Rd 7 - Pac
Thru 7 JMM only landed 71 to Pacs 94
his highest of the 3 fights and JMM's lowest.
    Rd8 JMM
    Rd 9 -Pac
Rd 10 - Pac - JMM lowest output.
    rd 11- JMM
rd 12 - Pac -JMM stumbling notthrowing, Pac landed best left hand.

Pac was stronger, sturdier, faster and JMM got caught w/ 2 many short right hooks.
Pac won easily by 2-5 rounds no less, no more.
JMM needed to step it up 9-12 but was getting countered himself.

Pac threw more and landed more power shots at and at a higher percentage for the first time in the trilogy.

Judges are not told to give close rounds to the champion.

The benefit of the doubt that the champ gets is keeping his belt in a draw.
