Absolutely he didn't earn it, but the unique circumstances of it being a 4 man tourney with the first 2 already matched up makes it a little less aggregious. So no, he didn't earn his shot, but you are letting that interfer with judging his quality. His quality was proven to be more than good enough, so even if unfair, the best fighter quality wise, not record wise, won and is the champ.
