I was thinking about it, that would've been a GOOD FIGHT. Say what you want about Gatti, the guy can take punishment and can bang -- has good pop at 140. And while Hatton has good body work and loads of aggression, even if he can be a bit dirty, he is always there to be tagged. His defensive is terrible. To be honest, I think Gatti could've pulled out the upset, but more than likely it is possible he very well would've been defeated. Hatton's speed is often underrated, but Hatton's chin appears to be below average, getting KO'd in the 2nd round by Pac and getting KO'd by a defensive fighter in Mayweather is not a good look. (Yes I know about Mayweather's past, yes I know he was a known as a boxer with good power, but that was back at his PRIME WEIGHT. At welter his power isn't that great, its ok.) Gatti fighting Mayweather at that point was a terrible idea. As there was nothing that Gatti could do that would be better than Floyd, sure he may have more power, but there really was nothing he could really do against a fighter like Mayweather. But with Hatton, he would at least land and box him. Either way, I feel it would've been a good fight.
Would've been great!!!! I can't see any way Gatti wins against him or any other top level fighter but... With Hattons defense he could definitely land something. For Gatti to be effective you have to trade and Hatton would. Gatti had no business in there with Floyd, but it did showcase Floyd. Most folks don't take that fight for much cause they knew what Gatti was.
a prime tough gatti certainly had a punchers chance to stop hatton and would also be around long enough and throwing enough to give himself plenty of opportunities.
Hattons chin in his Prime at JWW was good, Gatti had good power and could have knocked him out but Hatton had under-rated head movement and could slip some of Gattis loose jabs and fire some left hooks at Gattis head because his defence wasnt the best...sayin that though i still think Gatti had a good chance at beating Hatton. Id say it was 60/40 in Hattons favour!
In hindsight I wish Arturo never befriended a Brazilian notnamed Acelino Freitas... But about the fight-I agree that it would have been tremedous.Gatti would have probably tried to outbox Hatton early on with some success prolly even being up on the cards after 3 rounds or so but Hatton had underrated foot movement and would have cut the ring off and started to work on the isnide. He would have smothered Arturo a lot while still doing his left hook clinch thing.Gatti would have been frustrated. Some wicked body shots would have been traded aswell and here is where I think Hatton would have really won the fight. I would have favored Hatton but Gatti was live in this.Prolly Hatton goes 2-1 in a troligy.
Hatton was slated to fight Gatti if Gatti had beaten Baldomir for the WW championship. Billy Graham was on SkySports analyzing the fight and looked like his dog had just been shot when Gatti got knocked out.
Yeah I knoiw about that but it wasn't how it would have worked out necessarily. Arturo really wanted to fight Cotto badly for some reason or another rather than Hatton. Billy Graham looked like his mom died when Gatti lost to Baldomir.Out the window went a few millions.
Hatton would have smashed him. Gatti was a great guy and a real entertainer, but not all that cracking as a fighter IMO. Ricky isn't the greatest 140lb'er ever, but because of the 2 KO losses to Floyd and Pacquiao he is getting underrated a bit here.
i think a better fight would have been gatti vs corrales that would have been the war to end all wars
I think prime Hatton blows Gatti out of the water....since Hatton lost to Pac and May, everyone seems to have really knocked him down..and since Gatti died, everyone has seemed to pick up his ranking....truthfully..i dont see gatti being able to out box hatton.... Hatton would be right inside of him....trying to buddy mcgrit box would not work. As for Hatton's defense and chin..I think its good enough to avoid the majority of Gatti's blows...and I think Hatton's chin..espically a few years ago...is good enough to take what Gatti has....may have been a exciting fight..but i see Hatton winning big inside of 5
