Not all of them. Maher and Sharkey were born in Ireland. The rest have Irish roots. Most are 100% Irish. Quarry was not.

surely for these kind of lists fighters boxing trade should be attributed to where it was mostly learned, developed and contested... so unless they started fighting & contesting in Ireland, at least for a period, their Boxing is not Irish though they may have been born there.

likewise Italian Americans are really American fighters and so on.

i.e Fitz and LL more, NZ & Canada

What else was quarry? Good thread for the day! I would put Sullivan at top just because the man galvanized the sport.

Yeah, that looks a pretty good complement to my Italian-American top-10.

:thinkNow which batch of mugs do you favor - a) in a boxing tourney, and b) in a ten-on-ten brawl? :yep

:cheers:cheersThere have been a lot of good fighting Irish (American heavyweights) and a lot that we dont know of that have Irish blood, just like John Travolta and Robert Deniro have a bit, Ali have a 1/4 Irish I believe so and Tyson among others, Americans are not usually 100% pure bloods and the further you back in history you will learn that neither are the Europeans. I was told that St. Pat was not Irish but a Romanized man on a mission, either way, Lets Lift a pint for a fine fighting bunch

    :yep

I'm actually equal parts Irish & Italian, so I'm qualified to make this judgment. :D

    :think

I gotta say Team Mick wallops Team Dago, in this case, any day of week 1-52. More durable overall.

Seconded. Team Ireland would be my pick as well. I would however add in Francesco Damiani top spots 7-10 on team Italy.

And Two Ton Tony or Arturo Godoy might make the cut as well.
