Excellent point!! Does being the winner in one of the greatest most exciting fights of our era count? I think so!! He so smart he knew to spit out his mouthpiece after a 2nd devastating KO to buy himself a couple more precious seconds GENIUS. Some "greats" have never put on a performance like the one Chico put on that night.
    Very Good fighter....Great Performance
My boxing fandom would not be the same without Chico!!

I'll agree with Mr Bill, I think I know where he's coming from.....
.....Corrales was a great Warrior, but imo he was not a great fighter.

.....having said that. I have mad respect for Diego Corrales the fighter and Warrior, and I'm one that does'nt throw around the word great loosely, to just any fighter.
To use the word great, I'm talking about one of the best fighters ever, and to me thats not Diego Corrales.

Let me just add that few fighters can give the fightfans the excitement in a fight like Corrales could. Many times that has a longer lasting effect on fightfans minds than being genuinely a great fighter.
    May Chico RIP!

    I agree completely.

Plus Chico was a better technician than many people give him credit for. Ok, he was no Mayweather but like Gatti he could box a bit but just chose not to a lot of the time and would instead give the crowd what they wanted and would engage in toe-to-toe wars.

    Nice tat by the way.

I don't like to "Tag" a fighter great based on his ability to just take a spitload of punishment in the ring..... Some fighters were blessed with cement chins (Rocky Marciano).... While others had heart and soul, but average chins at best (Diego Corrales)... OH! Marciano was GREAT all around...... Corrales was a GREAT warrior, but only a good fighter........ Sorry to break anyone's heart...

you aint breaking no ones heart, your stating facts based on your opinion while trying to come across as a snotty nosed *******....

he was a great "fighter" in my book...not a great "boxer" like floyd or sugar ray leonard who IMO was both a great fighter and boxer....

and i didnt say great based on his ability to take punishment....your stating the obvious trying to sound smart....anyone who knows boxing knows that chico was a game fighter....just like a game **** or dog, he was willing to go into deep waters and not come back to shore unless he made his fans, family and himself proud......that to me is something you can't teach in the gym, so i'll take that over a great "boxer" like floyd any day :good :good

Nice tat. Chico is a great fighter in my book. He defeated 3 future hall of famers back-to-back-to-back in Casamayor, Freitas, and Castillo. Thats more than enough to be a great fighter in my opinion.
