In most fights the first round should be scored as 10-10

In about 90% of fights nothing meaningful is landed by either boxer, it's literally a feel out round. Yet time after time you force yourself to come up with a reason to give a guy the round eg. Fighter A landed a jab in the final 45 seconds so I'm going to give it to him 10-9. It's literally the dumbest thing ever. Why is this done in boxing?

Not just the first but just recently Alycia s Christina fight there was a round i think rd4 or r5 where i thought it was very even & equal amount of sway with punches being landed in the same ratio,

But i know the judges wont score it as such & have been discouraged to not score even rounds.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but i think more rounds should be scored 10-10.

I have always thought this. IMO a fighter should have to really dig in in round one to get a 10-9. Most as you said are feeling out rounds where nothing happens. It's one of the easiest ways to rig a fight if you ask me.

I also hate that not all 10-9 rounds are the same. Like an actionless round one gts scored 10-9 but a round where a fighter shows a clear advantage (but doesn't hurt or KD the other guy) is also 10-9. It's really stupid. Not to mention judges don't even have to say WHY they gave a round to a fighter (was it defense? Aggression? Ring generalship? what did they base it on?)

    That's how Fury beat W;ad

Wlad did nothing and Fury landed 1 jab every round to take the round

    Easy work.

Obvoisly judges can't count every punch they have to feel out who is doing more and better quality work. Luckily for them it's normally quite clear who has won a round.

The more rounds you score even is an indication that you don't know how to score a fight. Too many criteria.

Even rounds aren't forbidden. Makes no sense to have a scoring that results in a draw fight, but not having one or even more draw rounds. The 10-point scoring system, as it is, has its drawbacks.

The OP has its reasons actually.

Nope. Even rounds suck, and are mostly scored in fights overseas.

I disagree with the 90% figure but yes I definitely tend to score feel out rounds as even which I think is discouraged in actual judging

Agree w/ OP and also think more rounds s/ be even 10-10. There are more bad examples of scoring - how rounds w/ KDs are handled.

For example fighter A is dominating a round vs. fighter B. But somewhere in the round B knocks down A. Often this will be scored as 10-8 for B, which is ridiculous. Fighter A was going to easily & clearly win the round 10-9 (+1 for A), but b/c of one KD losses the round 8-10 (-2 for A). This is a THREE point swing for one KD, maybe even a flash KD where fighter A wasn't hurt much  You could argue that in such a scenario that round s/ be 10-9 for fighter B or even 10-10. Knock downs should be meaningful in scoring, but not to an extreme.

Often the fighter that scores the KD also was dominant in the round and 10-8 is justified. But there are many other scenarios that should have different scoring. Some judges handle these other scenarios well, but it seems most do not.
Judging rounds in boxing hasn't evolved much in the past 100 years ! :shakehead:

Of course they have their reasons, just like there are reasons why scoring even rounds is frowned upon. ( Don't tear the fence down 'till you know why it's there ) Most people score fights while watching for entertainment. Not even close to purposely scoring a fight. With the criteria that fights are judged by you should be able to score a winner. While even rounds do exist, they are far fewer than most most fans think. From what I can tell a lot of people hold the criteria evenly, forgetting that there is a strong emphasis on clean effective punching.

How is scoring rounds 10-10 going to eliminate the draw. First time a big fight is scored a draw using that system, people will be on hear crying that the first round should be given a winner.

I am not saying the draw fight must be eliminated. Forcing a winner when a fight is hard to decide or obviously even isn't the better option.

I disagree in principal with that but in practice many rounds are even and almost a coin toss to find a winner in. Particularly rounds where very little is thrown or landed.
