In most fights the first round should be scored as 10-10

    Agreed with OP.

Most 1st rounds are feel out rounds. Also agree that there should be more 10-10 rounds. Let the decisive rounds decide the fight.

I see where op is coming from, but I disagree. In a boxer’s mind, it’s ideal that they win every round. Feel out and slow rounds should be expected, so it’s their duty to do something slightly extra in them, which is usually what happens.

No rounds should be 10/10, pull the damn trigger.

There are times rounds should be 9/9, 9/8, etc............never 10/10. Someone did a tick more.

A judge focusing, properly scoring should know who is winning at all times. It is fairly uncommon to have genuine 10-10 rounds. I disagree there should be more even rounds.

I agree, in a round where nothing happens and nothing hard is landed and one fighter lands 12 pitty pat shots and the other fighter lands 10 nobody actually,,,WON the round. Judges can't count punches but they can see neither man had the advantage.

Championship caliper fighters will always do what they need to do to separate themselves from their competitor in those " feel out rounds."

10-10 rounds would fix nothing. Because there is no objective line to tell the difference between a 10-10 and a 10-9 round. So it would fix no problem at all.

"hey man! this was a close round it was 10-10, the difference was only 3 jabs"
"no, dude, YDKSAB, it was not a close round, the difference was 3 jabs, it was 10-9"

    Nothing fixed.

Scoring most close first rounds 10-10 (merely for sake of doing) is hardly praxis, no.

Rounds that are legitimately too close to call applying the official criteria should of course be scored 10-10. Both professional judges and fans should feel at liberty to score the odd round even.

It should be rare, though. If you know how to score a fight, you shouldn't really be having a 10-10 more than once in a while, definitely not in the same fight, and definitely not one automatically to begin every single fight even if the action is close or sparse & both competitors are feeling one another out.

i’ve been saying this for a long time. If a round is super close and you’re having a hard time picking a winner, just make it an even round.

In the old days, judges often scored many rounds even, often many even rounds a single fight. I don't think you can say those judges didn't know how to score, it's just a "different" way of scoring, that is no longer popularized or encouraged in modern boxing. In a historical sense, even rounds were very prevalent and acceptable.

It's true many rounds are 10/10 but in these cases it's usually better to just score them for Mayweather/Ward/Canelo/Joshua.

I'd rather see more rounds scored 10-8 I think.
