In my estimation, Canelo has had 7 "serious" fights and is 3-3-1 in them

Those names being, Trout, Mayweather Jr., Lara, Golovkin (I & II), Jacobs, Smith. There are a LOT of quality B level guys he has dominated, and even more C level fighters. This thread is about the quality, prime or near prime operators he has faced.

Trout (WIN) - Just rewatched this. Despite Trout's volume, young Gasnelo landed the cleaner, more effective shots. Trout troubled Canelo at times, but never for more than 20 seconds, and never enough to establish himself.

Mayweather Jr. (LOSS) - Nothing needs to be said about this one. Completely outboxed and nullified by a man with the strongest argument for GOAT. One card was a draw.

Lara (DRAW) - This fight could have easily been a loss, but I had it a very clear draw at the time, and was ecstatic watching the fight as I had bet on the draw.

Golovkin I (LOSS) - Clear as day drawbbery. No impartial fan had Golovkin losing or drawing this fight.

Golovkin II (LOSS) - Golovkin is allowed to score points while moving backward and boxing. Canelo being on the front foot and eating jabs does not score him points.

Jacobs (WIN) - Clean win for Canelo over a Jacobs who was probably at the height of his career post Pirog. Jacobs had just had the most impressive performance against Derevyanchenko among himself, Charlo, and GGG. Canelo showed some new wrinkles and looked great in doing so. Very impressive win.

Smith (WIN) - Was surprised at how limited Canelo was able to make Smith look. Short training camp shenanigans aside, Canelo thoroughly worked Smith from start to finish. He fought him exactly how he should and barely got hit.

This is not a post about how Canelo is trash or overrated. These are his biggest fights and these are the results that I and many others saw. Canelo is absolutely getting better every fight and clearly has one of the highest ceilings in the sport. That said, there are many suspect elements of his career that make him difficult to like. I think a win over BJS immediately becomes a top 2 win at worst on his resume, which, boiled down to these fights, is just ok.

GGG II was a draw IMO but yeah, Canelo lost the first one fair and square. No shame in losing to Mayweather at his (Canelo's) age.

I feel remarkably neutral toward Canelo. Truly. Maybe the Trout fight is the closest thing to a stretch I've made, maybe. The other fights have seemed cut and dry for years. When you have an iron chinned A-side who goes to the cards in all his big fights, this is bound to happen.

Should be 0-2 against an old way past prime GGG who he shamelessly ducked until the signs of ageing and decline he'd been biding his time waiting for became apparent

He should be no better than 1-1 against Lara and Trout

Shot still concussed cracked chin vodka gas tank Kovalev completely outboxed him prior to inevitably gassing and getting clipped and had he not was about to get robbed blind by Clen's judges

And he has a long history of having absolutely scandalously wide score cards being scored in his favour by his judges.

He only has to make it to the final bell to get his hand raised and his judges are going to rob you everytime unless you KO him and even then that's no guarantee of getting the W

I believe Canelo wins but even I admit some of the craphousery going on in this fight is rather off. From the judges to no rematch clause.

When does Hearn allow any of his fighter not to have a rematch clause? Whyte Vs Povetkin, rematch., nobody knew about it until Whyte was old cold.. don't forget he was up at 8

Jesus, even Josh Warrington in basically a keep busy fight had a rematch clause.

Hearn has said it himself numerous times, it would be negligent not to have one, so why not now, in a huge fight, with probably his biggest worldwide star?

I think because if Canelo get gifted a decision they will just move on and forget BJS, they have no intention of giving him a rematch is a close or controversial fight.

Even though I believe Canelo beats him fair and square I have to admit BJS will have to KO Canelo to get a draw.

Kovalev openly mocked people who bet on him. Does that answer your question?

He beat Trout. Trout featherdusted too much. He did zero damage. Canelo deserved it. I've never actually watched the Lara fight. Missed when it happened and heard it was awful so I'm not sure I want to see that. Golovkin I, I gave it Golovkin easily. Golovkin II, I gave to Canelo. On second watch though, I was a little unsure and saw it much closer.

That's something I have a mental block with, I forget sometimes this man was caught cheating and I even said at the time all his previous wins have been tarnished/stained.

Hang on, you have all got me all wound up and wanting BJS to win.. go f yourselves
