In my opinion, a well balanced assessment on Khan from Spencer Fearon.. Link:: http://www.setantasports.com/en/Blogs/A-to-Z-of-Bloggers/Spencer-Fearon/06/09/To-all-you-Amir-haters/?facets/blog-space/great-britain-locale/boxing/
Possbile a little forgiving, however you need to remember he is "still" only a young man and has time on his side..I think your assessement of young Amir "useless, chinless ****" lacks the diplomacy of Mr Fearons
I agree with some of that piece. Not sure about his assessment of Khan's previous matchmaking being excellent though - putting super featherweights and past their best fighters in front of him wasn't exactly the best preparation for a puncher like Prescott. Perhaps having previously overwhelmed over matched opponents contributed to giving Khan false confidence going into this fight. Also, its all very well criticising the choice of Prescott as opponent for Khan now given what has happened but lets not forget Khan was apparently on the verge of a World Title shot - it was inevitable he would need to be put in with a puncher before then.
I thought the matchmaking was good until the Limond fight, which changed everything. Since then they've been scrambling around a bit to make fights that will sell but are lowish risk. He hasn't exactly been fed pushovers, Limond, Gomez, Earl are plenty good enough for a kid between fights 15-20. I guess the glaring omission from his matches was someone with big power. They got it wrong with Prescott though. I suspect they thought his high KO % was an anomaly.
What's to say he punches THAT hard though? He's knocked out a bunch of amateurs with a number of fights you could count on one hand and now Khan, the glass jawed joke. I suspect amongst top class opposition he'll just be a good puncher, nothing out of this world. He was the perfect less than schooled opponent for Khan to outbox easily, and then he could at least claim he's been in with a puncher. That was the logic anyway.
I stil think Khan will be a world champ, but not for at least 3 years. he needs to do exactly what Spencer said. Get away from his family too.
I agree entirely. He was better than they expected (by Warren's own admission) but that doesn't mean he's anything special, far from it. Team Khan thought they were getting a walkover with a padded record I think, someone to look good against on the PPV. Turns out it was actually vice-versa.
