I've watched the fight back recently, & what I noticed is that despite winning all the rounds up until the stoppage, Tank struggled to put Gamboa - a shot, chinny, one-legged, 38yr old away convincingly. He also got hit a lot & failed to impress. As the fight got to the final round & nearly went the distance, in order to protect Tank's KO streak, they gave him a gift stoppage after a KD (which Gamboa looked okay, was ready to continue, & was already getting up from when it was waved off). From what I saw, I'm convinced that a Prime Gamboa would have beaten Tank on points convincingly, with Tank having his moments, maybe even dropping Gamboa at some point.

    Agreed.

So far “Tank” Davis has been feeding on naturally lower weight class fighters at the end of their careers. Gamboa, LSC. His “destroyer with power” image is an illusion, created and sold to the social media types who eat it up, to sell tickets. He could not finish a one legged Cuban midget who was way past his sell by date.

For more information on Davis you can look for him, tail between his legs, running from real competition, beating women and random people then paying them to drop the charges while heading straight into multiple hit and run felonies.

    Waste of a human being.

When Gamboa was good, he was really good. I thought he was headed for legendary status. To me he looked a bit like a mini Roy Jones Jr. This is a great fantasy matchup prime for prime. You make a good case, but I don't know. Gamboa was always careless and Tank has comparable speed and reflexes to make him pay. Not sure who I'd pick prime for prime tbh.

    I agree.
However Tank is young and I think might improve. He is below 30 y.o now.

Tank is broner 2.0 with actual power but getting even more protection from his company.

Gamboa was always wide open though.

I doubt it. Tank didn't come in shape for that fight and tank would always get the better of chinny gamboa in those exchanges.

Prime Gamboa sparks his lazy ass. One legged Gamboa gave him a fight. Tank would want no part of prime Gamboa and would avoid him like the plague. He’d only fight him on Twitter, not the ring.

I don’t understand why Tank is so protected if he is the elite talent that Floyd and Ellerbe would have you believe

He could beat the Tank he faced, not sure if we've seen the best Tank yet though.

A more than reasonable take. If it takes you 12 rounds to get a shot to smithereens one-legged glass-jawed leprechaun out of there who was fighting with the huge handicap of having a gammy leg from round 2 onward then your chances of beating a prime version don't bode well. The difference between a prime Gamboa and today's version are so Stark he could be a king of the North. The prime version didn't just look like a different man he looked like a completely different species.

The prime version took too many risks and too many punches, forget being a completely different species if you cant take a big punch without tasting the canvas. A prime Gamboa would most likely get Koed, the same way he did against crawford.

A featherweight prime Gamboa would surely whoop any weight of prime Tank's ass

At one point in his career Gamboa was on the verge of making a huge run at p4p, something Tank has not come close to.
