In my opinion, there isn't enough trash talk in boxing.

I miss the days where James Toney would issue a statement calling Chris Byrd's wife "Piggie Smalls" or talking about the "Frankenstein Klitschko's" .

I remember the headline on a website to an article about Toney, in reference to Roy Jones..."I'll slap the pimples off his momma!"

And all of Ricardo Mayorga's awesome rants about how Vargas looks like his son's ass  or sewing a pair of balls on Vernon Forrest.

Why isn't there more trash talk in boxing? I miss going to read the boxing news, looking for some good **** thrown around.

Yeah trash talking is good. The women of ESB suggest otherwise, though.

There are only a select few that can pull it off. I don't mind it when done in a humorous manner. The problem is that most people who try it end up coming off as either fake, lame, or flat out pathetic.

The only people who should be trash talking are the one's who actually know how to do it. The point of it is to make people laugh, and put asses in the seats. Not to personally offend half of the world with stupid racist comments, alienate the fans, and **** like that. All that does is set boxing back.

Nah, most of them are bull****. Mayorga and Toney I'll give you, they were fairly amusing, but I don't see the point in many people trying to pull that off. I mean thats a different level of trash talking when you start talking about someones mom.

Boxing related trash talk is all good.

I agree....and those who can back it up as well. Nobody should talk thrash unless they can somehow back it up. Judah being an example, he talked sh*t about Tszyu before their fight, but he couldn't back it up, thus he got humbled in a worst manner.

It would be better if there was more of it but not many characters like that around too much anymore.

The only thing i dont like is when a fighter says he is going to destroy the other fighter, but come fight night, he runs all day. Good example, Mayweather and Guzman.

Some guys can get away with and be funny while other's just come off as stupid so not everyone is a good trash talker its a talent.

Some of the comments are funny, for sure. Muhammad Ali certainly revolutionized trash talk, and much of that was hilarious, although Joe Frazier may disagree.
But then you have guys like Haye, who talk and talk, but don't show up for fights.
Then theres Floyd Mayweather's wit...."you're a *****". Wow, how original and clever.
When I first got interested in boxing, one of the first things that struck me was how respectful most of the fighters were to one another. I thought guys who were going to fight would be all angry and nasty. I kind of liked the fact that boxing , in concept anyway, was a fair fight, and the fighters had no animosity.
For all those who do like unlimited and even ignorant sounding trash talk, just think back to the days of Jack Johnson. The things other fighters , the fans, and even the sportswriters said about Jack were most derogatory. Of course, Johnson just smiled and kicked ass. But then Frazier being called an "Uncle Tom" (when in fact he was anything but) didn't take the trash talk too lightly. And with good reason.
If meaningless jabber and ignorant insults entertain you, well then enjoy yourself. There are plenty of low lifes like the Mayweathers to keep you in stitches for years to come.

If you want that kinda sh*t, watch WWE.

This is boxing and i prefer my gladiators the old Roman way: less talk, deceptively innocuous, yet lethal and merciless at the arena. Consummate professionals, and not barbaric wannabe jokers. :deal
