what papers are u refering to m8? havent seen or heard anybody calling him a pathetic loser after the loss to jc, not any of the genuine boxing fans ,and it must be them we talk about i this thread. yes he has gotten some harsh words for him and palle backing out of the miranda deal, but that has nothing to do with being treated badly, that is what to expect when u make a fool of yourself
Yea...it's a shame, Lacy seems like a great guy but will be mostly remembered for this bout. He's looked horrible in recent outings.
I will forever be a fan of Jeff Lacy and I think there is enough proof in this thread that he isn't despised by everyone. Anyone who follows boxing for a long time has a list of fighters that disappointed them. I have plenty. I've been wrong before and will probably be wrong again. I am a little surprised at some of the statements from the haters. Wishing someone to suffer especially someone as classy as Jeff Lacy is just pathetic and not the kind of stuff that true boxing fans would ever say. That's probably where a fan of a fighter and a nuthugger part company. Jeff was beaten before he ever entered that ring. He had an awful training camp. Got totally humiliated by Winky in a sparring session. And I think he caved completely when he had to face the awesome spectacle of a match in Great Britain. I have to hand it to the British, they are without a doubt the most vocal and intimidating boxing fans in the world. It's like there's a second man in the ring. Jeff probably wasn't as good as some of us thought. Does that make us fools. Well there were a lot of fools then and not just in the U.S. or in Saint Petersburg Florida near my home. The silence from the Calzaghe fans before that fight was profound. They were worried.
I agree. I still think Lacy is a very good fighter. Just go and revist some of his fights pre Calzaghe. Seems like a nice fella too. I hope he can get back to his best one day, although such a beating often ruins a fighter
There are many people who seem to overlook how hard it is to win on the road. It's bad enough when you're playing a team sport and you go into the other team's backyard where everyone's against you. At least in that situation you have your teammates with you and you know that you're in it together. In boxing you're one man going into the lion's den. The whole crowd is booing you from the moment you make your walk to the ring and let me tell u, if the crowd is big enough the fighter can definitely be affected. Could u imagine fighting Chavez in Azteca Stadium? Calzaghe in Wales? It's bad enough u gotta face these guys but to do it in their own countries? No thank you. Alot of fighters say they'll go anywhere and fight anyone. Some do. Even less of them actually win. Hopefully, people can appreciate what Steve Cunnigham has been able to do throughout his career. Wins over Rothmann in South Africa, Wlodarczyk in Poland, and Huck in Germany. That's simply outstanding.
Joe shouldn't fight Pavlik or Dawson, because after he defeats them the Calzaghe haters will say they were no good anyway, the same as they say about Lacy.
