"EPIC", no. It was only noteworthy in that Hatton is the only fighter I remember to have actually rocked PBF, and with a jab no less. Otherwise, it was pretty much another day at the office for Floyd. I laughed out loud at Lederman's card for Rounds 1-5, the odd ones he gave to Ricky??!?!?
To be honest, a lot of people including myself saw the first 5 rounds as very competitive, with Hatton still well in the fight. I had a shed load of cash on PBF to win aswell.
Mayweather vs Hatton as an event, was truly amazing. Every minute of the build up to this fight was sensational. The fight itself was entertaining, and it was a pleasure to watch Floyd do his thing. One of his best performances easy. Ricky didn't do too bad either, as the the first the few rounds were pretty competitive. It's a shame he kept blocking Floyd's punches with his face though
I thought ricky was too rough too rugged for Floyd. I didnt think Floyd can hurt the guy. Great Fight in my Opinion, every thing I thought never happened and It surprised me
Living in the UK made it a huge fight, it was in all of the papers and on every news show in the build up to the fight, you couldn't get away from it if you wanted too. Mayweather played his part as the bad guy well and it was built up as Hatton being the man to finally shut him up, the fight gets played down quite a lot since Hatton's punch resistance took a turn for the worse after the fight but going into it he was on a roll and looked every bit the credible opponent. I read somewhere that it drew 1.2 million PPV buys in the UK which is an amazing pull considering the size of the place and the fight going off after 4am, you have to give credit to Sky, Hatton and Mayweather for making it so anticipated with such a great build up.
Great fight, greater buildup. People forget it really was a good fight and even though Hatton was getting beat up past the 6th, he really made it interesting for the first half of the fight. Floyd had some problems dealing with the nonstop pressure of Hatton, who was flat out charging him. Great fight by both guys. Maybe Floyd's best win of his career up to this point.
I only find a build-up truly exciting if I don't have a clue who is going to win the fight. I was always sure Floyd would completely outclass Hatton, so I didn't find the build-up very enthralling.
i think it really was , as roger said it- the "Rocky" story. the poor, great white hope against the brash urban guy. thats what made it so fascinating- the guys were so different. my favourtie part of the buildup was in 24/7- when in the last episode the narrator said "as different as these two guys are, when they are alone in the ring with each other they will realise that nobody in the world is as similar as the man standing across from them. " - that was one of the most poetic ****in lines in combat i ve ever heard- i mean thats some achilles/ hector **** right there.. and as roger said "unlike rocky- the guys thas spose to win- is gon win!"
