In retrospect, wa Amir Khan an excellent amateur who didn't become an excellent professional

He had a better career than like 99% of other pro boxers, so I would say he did some excellent work

he got knocked out a few times, so ****n what, cant judge his whole career on that, this is baxin. Very good pro who had his shortcomings but had the heart to keep going. Respect

Look at who he got stopped by, pretty much all very heavy hitters except for maybe danny garcia who had only a little above average pop. He was a solid pro with fantastic hand speed and he was really effective against southpaws. Obviously his chin wasn't very solid and I do believe he had some defensive flaws like being to easy to hit when he opened up but overall a pretty well schooled boxer.

Becoming a legitimate world champion is a good career.. Who knows how much better he would have been had he simply learn how to control his handspeed and not go uncoordinated leaving his chin open..?? Also what if Tim Bradley wouldn’t have signed to Top Rank and we got the Bradley vs Khan fight for undisputed..??

The peak of his amateur career was a silver medal and that's about the level of his pro career. Very good accomplishments but there was always someone better.

I've seen people saying that he skipped a couple domestic and euro levels on the way up and I never considered that but I think it's true and ended up hurting him in the long run.

Great boxer, let down by poor management and distractions outside the sport. Those who don't consider him having a great professional boxer should ask why Khan attracted the best trainers in the world even at the end of his career.

I agree he had a style best suited for the amateurs. He never was able to adapt and didn't always lead the life required to achieve some of his more ambitious claims. He lived off of his natural raw talent and that Olympic silver medal at such a young age which gave him a platform that few amateurs turning pro get.

But having said that he for me exceeded my rather low expectations of him. He was a genuine world class light welterweight winning world titles. Sure after the Prescott loss many of his opponents were hand picked lacking the power to hurt him or the style to pressure him but he did beat Maidana and that win alone shows he was legit even if he fell well short of his boastful claims.

Overall he had a very memorable career if not a great one.

Khan had massive failings that's fore sure, and he reached a ceiling to some extent but what a ceiling to reach. 2 time world champion and he had some fantastic attributes to offset his failings.
Anyone saying he was rubbish or average really needs their heads testing. He beat legit world class fighters. Was he elite no, an atg no, World class in his prime - absolutely.
An excellent career that probably faded after he left Roche that style where Freddie knew he was vulnerable but got him raiding in and out using his excellent hand and foot speed were the best of his career. He never had the IQ to do well under Hunter - but i get why he went in that direction. A good career with a few highlights and some excellent wins. Time to retire now tho

Khan has had a great career, 2 world titles and absolutely dominated some names like Judah, collazo, malignagi, maidana and Alexander. Before they were shot.

Olympic silver medalist and two-time world champion who beat a whole bunch of very good fighters, beat a bunch of very good fighters in their backyards, and fought a bunch of the best fighters of his generation.

Beat some excellent/very good amateurs too

    Beat Maidana and Kotelnik

Beat Paulie, Zab, Collazo, Alexander, Algieri in their backyards/country

Was robbed against Peterson in his

And fought Terry, Danny and Clenelo in theirs (Vegas is just as much Clenelo's backyard as Mexico is. Anywhere in the US is too)

How long has E-Spence been saying he wants to fight Terry and Clenelo? Well blown up 135/140 pounder Amir actually did fight both. But ya'll be rasping on Errol's plums and pooping on a Brit Level warrior who was about that life and ran towards the smoke as opposed to just paying lip service to it, clouting chasing and running in the opposite direction from the smoke
