Got to respect the fact he went to America and did rather well for himself more than any other Brit I can remember doing most Brits stay in UK and have soft touch defences of their belts khan always tried to fight the best has a great resume I think

Not really. If anything, he greatly overachieved, given his lack of a chin, defense and ring IQ.

He did well enough winning the Light Welterweight world title twice even with his dodgy chin.

If you didn't enjoy prime Amir Khan fights you've got something wrong with you.

Never been a fan but he was a very good professional

We saw maidana get dropped but he always popped right back up to his feet. Against khan he was seriously hurt, it looked like he really wanted to quit from that body shot.

    Great amateur, but basic professional.

As a professional, Khan's freakish speed is what carried him pretty much. If someone was able to time his predictable attacks, he was immediately taken out. Additionally, he could not adapt whatsoever and was a stationary target when he started to slow down.

The recent fight has nothing to do with my opinion here. This is what I have been saying about Khan's abilities for over a decade now.

Agree with the opening poster. I dont think khan was an excellent professional even with winning world titles. Obviously the kid achieved a lot and can be happy with his career but off the back of the position he was in...its a bit of an underwhelming career in the pro ranks for me.

Off the back of the olympics and having a lot of fans from his community and other uk fans he became the a side overnight. From their he was able to select opponents when and where he wanted them...bring a lot of them up in weight etc...with a home crowd and the best facilities and trainers in the game. I reckon a lot of brits would have won world titles if they,d have started off in the same position.

I think it became apparent with the sheer hiding he done regarding brook for so many years. Even the maidana fight...they tried everything to avoid taking it before being forced to take it.

Great pro,s dont need to do that.

They picked guys mostly who couldnt punch or we,re too small and even then he seemed to make a mess of it at times. Was a decent fighter under roach tbf....but they had too work too hard training him to get the wins. In terms of he,d always have a limited lifespan at that level the way they had to train him to accomodate for his lack of ring iq. He was pretty fit and strong under roach...but eventually when that starts to slide after a small window of prime years...it was always gonna be an uphill struggle.

Some good wins tbf. Alexander win was underrated. I m not sure if alexander was got at the right time...but he was on a great run up till amir beat him easy enough...i think under virgil as well.

Good enough career....an excellent amatuer...just not an excellent pro...like the opening poster alluded to.

Khan might not have been a great fighter but he was well better than those three.

    In retrospect, you're probably right.

I really liked Khan when he fought in the Olympics and even when they had the last amateur fight (rematch) with Kindelan. I rooted for him during his early career. I even ordered the PPV with Marco Antonio Barrera, which seems crazy now.

I thought he was a very fun fighter to watch in the early days, and then he just wasn't anymore.

I think it happened around the Danny Garcia fight, which surprised me at the time.

He started to become one of those guys that spent most of the round holding. I hate that.

He seemed to get more annoying as the years progressed. Didn't mind the losing so much as he wasn't entertaining to watch anymore. Nobody who lived through John Ruiz wants to watch all that holding ever again.

For me, he went from a guy I supported to someone I couldn't care less about. Really milked every last dollar he could out of some fans but didn't deliver the same effort.

    Overstayed his welcome.

I have no idea why people continue to push the myth that Khan was some master boxer who was a nightmare for Floyd.

Because Khan beat Malignaggi, Judah, Kotelnik, and Alexander? OK. Let's just ignore the FACT that none of them are in the same universe as Floyd in terms of skill.

Khan was an excellent professional. Yes he had his flaws...but he had a very good and rewarding career in the pro game

Not a "master boxer" but stylistically all wrong for Floyd, particularly old faded Floyd who had slowed down and was no longer prime. It would be difficult for Floyd to win rounds against Khan due to Khan's activity level and ability to swarm him with long combos. Floyd with his brittle hands in 2015 didn't have the power to get Khan out of there, so it's a recipe for disaster for Floyd with Khan winning on points.
