You know, somehing this video also shows is Roy always had a problem of getting trapped in the corner or on the ropes throughout his career. It just never became a problem until later.

Like many have already said, he faced plenty of adversity in the first Tarver fight. Roy was a superior athlete and he got a bit old. It happens. He was amazing in his prime. The reason I became a boxing fan.

It wasn't a "flush massive punch". When are you Roy Jones nuthuggers ever going to get it that Roy never got hit flush and the first 3 times he did he got knocked down and knocked out twice.

I think he could have always avoided going to the ropes in his younger years. I think it was a bad habit he developed cause he was so damn good he could get away with it. Plus, you start to lose your legs with age. Definitely seriously hurt him when that started to happen.

    I don't think so...

He fought many fighters on Tarver's level when he was prime or close to prime... Hell, Harding broke Tarver's jaw, and Roy beat Harding comfortably in my opinion, but did look a little slow getting into the fight.

Dell Valle, nah.... Roy beat him badly except for the flash knockdown.

Reggie Johnson, Richard Hall, I don't understand the struggle with southpaws.

Tarver vs. Jones would have always been a decent fight due to the history and the styles... But I think the best version of Jones beats the best version of Tarver pretty soundly.

Agreed, I always thought he could have avoided it as well. He just always found a way to drift there.

So he was a pro boxer that fought for near enough 15 years before he got hit flush? Damn he was even better than I originally thought.

Yes... It was a hard punch by a much larger man right in the side of the head...

When are you Roy haters gonna realize he once was able to take a punch better than in his later days?

Prime Roy used to go to the ropes as part of his strategy to feel a fighter out, and was often able to capitalize on that..

In his later years, he did it because he had no legs and was trying to conserve energy. That backfired on him, but still works vs. C level fighters.

I agree that Roy was that good that his reflexes shielded off his glass jaw. But the couple of time he got hit hard flush, there was always a reaction of being hurt.

Since when did I become a Roy hater?...Would you at least admit that the man always had a shaky chin at the very least?

I can't say his chin was iron, surely not...

But before the drop from heavyweight, I saw him take some decent shots that would certainly KO him now.
