In terms of ability and resume, is Cigano already the 5th best HW OAT?

    Fedor
    Nogueira
    Crocop
    Barnett

After these four, is it Junior?

For my money, he's already a greater heavyweight than Vovchanchyn, Sylvia, Overeem, Mir, and anyone else I can think of.

    Thoughts? :bbb

How the **** is Barnett fourth?

And surely Couture deserves some consideration.

Couture doesn't deserve consideration for the top 5, not at all. :nono

And Barnett is fourth because he holds wins over:

    - Minotauro Nogueira in Pride (#2 hw ever)
    - Aleks Emelianenko
    - Sergei Kharitonov
    - Mark Hunt
    - Randy Couture
    - Dan Severn, Pedro Rizzo, Brett Rogers, Jeff Monzon, Semmy Schilt

Barnett has a couple of stellar wins backed up a long and successful career in the division. His hw record is deeper and stronger than Couture's, easily.

Id say yes. And i cant think of a HW who's risen so quickly into the top 5 ever. Cigano is ****ing awesome, and already has the resume to back it up

If he beats Overeem, then jeesh theres no saying how high the the guys destined

And on top of it all hes a lovely humble bloke. A very worthwhlie successor to Emelianenko, Shodor

Couture the master gameplanner who lost 9 or more fights?

Not sure on JDS. I personally believe there to be a big gap between 2nd and 3rd. Not that Filipovic wasnt a menace in 2005/6 but he had a few losses which hurt him.

I'd consider Barnett better than Mirko perhaps... although H2H doesnt back me up:D

I know a forum is used for debate, im just tired of reading useless debate about whos better in wich era or wich version of a fighter from wich era etc...
its the most biased way of making a point.
Lets face it if i like Fedor im always gonna put him in #1 etc..
i personally think debating about something thats about to happen is a much better way to tell if someones opinion is worth something.
Blabering about the past is just boring to me

& yes its not a P4P list but its the same thing

& BTW i personally think that cigano has still a lot to prove before he gets any merit
i love the guy, he just feels still very green to me

I actually agree with you I was just being a smartass:D

It is sometimes fun to talk about hose sorts of things but like you say somewhat annoying and pointless after a while.

How is he not? Couture's work at heavyweight stacks up well against anyone outside of Fedor, Nogueira, Cro Cop, and Barnett. I watched Couture's career progress, so a lot of his wins may not seem as big now as they did when they happened.

Couture has fought in the big leagues almost from the beginning. Couture was an unknown underdog when he faced Belfort. Belfort had just burst on the scene and looked like he was going to be a serious threat against anyone. Couture beat him up.

In his next bout, he beat Maurice Smith who had recently dethrowned Mark Coleman.

Couture also has wins over Randleman, Rizzo, Sylvia, and Gonzaga.

Randy's position isn't as solid as the rest of my top 5, but I don't think Dos Santos has done quite enough to get in yet. If I were confident Velasquez was near 100% for their bout, I would probably have him at 5.

So I guess to answer the question in you op, then I would have to say no; but it's arguable.

MMA heavyweight history is so shallow, I mean it has 19 years to play with.

You cant even make a top ten of all time yet, wait until this decade pans out first. JDS still has 10 years in the game, could go onto lose his next 12 fights...so saying this and that we have to wait.

The only heavyweights worth there moment of ATG are Fedor, Nogueira and Mirko...the rest by the end of 2030 wont be mentioned.

Nogueria was the frist real undisputed heavyweight champion
Fedor then came about and was hugely dominant.
Then we had Werdum briefly and now Overeem.

So lets wait a bit see how Overeem and JDS or even Cain do over the next 5 years.
