At that time that win was incredibly significant.

 

:yep Vitor's always been his own worst enemy

 

Not that cut and dried. He had the death of his sister to deal with who's was kidnapped and murdered in what was a very tragic story. It affected him badly. And naturally his never got over it.

 

I know! I actually give credit to guys who fought in that era. The weight disparity that guys sometimes had to face as well as the more dangerous conditions make up for the lack of well-roundedness fighters had at that time.

Well, Abbot did for sure. But Belfort stood up with a bigger guy, impressive stuff, it's not hard to see why he was being touted as the 'phenom of MMA'.

If you watch the early UFC's in order, Vitor turning up is like taking a Rocket Launcher to a Medieval battle.

 

No doubt. Dude was stud and a pleasure to watch. MMA back then hadn't seen that kind of high level striking or hand speed before.

 

I have to give it to Vitor. He was/is very explosive and has some good hand speed fought guys that where bigger than him.
Wins over Wandy, Eastman, Abbott, Yvel and against lindland but it was at catchweight if im not wrong.
Both fighters been KOd by Silva but who can blame them?
His win over Franklin was also good too

 

Beating Herring when he was a top HW contender was a good win too...

 

Belfort is the greater fighter in my opinion, really......Besides the fights already mentioned...Yvel is a underrated win for Vitor.....at the time Yvel was a very good fighter, just check out his fight with Goodridge....

 

You'd have to go with Belfort. He's operated at 3 weights. He's also beaten the man he is being compared to. He won the UFC HW tournie at 19 and in truth he was a middleweight who just packed alot of muscle.

For consistency, Franklin is a good bet but Vitor will always be picked for what he could achieve when the stars were aligned.

I like Franklin. He is just a good all rounder, in good shape, who comes to fight.

Belfort at 19 looked ******ed. Even his jaw & forehead looked roided up.

Ok, yeah just watched it now (well I skimmed through it) Vitor definitely lost that fight. Apparently there was some rule about how the difference in weight between them affected the judging, which pretty much guaranteed a Vitor win if he lasted the distance.
