Lol I can believe it edd. Not sure if he actually realised what a **** he was. Did the power go to his noggin or something? Yes brilliant boxer and if he'd had the personality of a Bruno he'd have had a hell of a lot more fans. But what a plonker!

Lamotta. He didnt like people and wasnt afraid to show it. As a result most people didnt like him either. He may have mellowed now that hes 647 years old but up until a few years ago he could still be a difficult guy.

What's even more incredible is that we're now on page 4 and no-one's mentioned reznick yet!

    Only joking, rez.

This clip includes an interview with Hamed (beginning 2:03) from, I think, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 1997.

It does make me wonder whether or not he actually realized that, despite his talent, which everyone recognized, he might well have been considered a bit of a cringeworthy joke at the same time.

That would seem to be the sensible view, by some distance. But the "liberal media darling"-factor seems to weigh heavily for some. Being a ******, wife beater or murderer is not nearly as bad in some quarters.

    Trevor Berbick.

He made Larry Holmes mad enough to neglect years of boxing training and drop kick him off the hood of a car. He was murdered by his own family.

Robert, as an acknowleged, well known Monzon fan, I too gave him a pass on most things except for the murder. The thing I appreciated about Monzon was that he usually kept his mouth shut, had that air of mystery, and did his talking with his fists....which I liked FAR more than the "flamboyant, loud mouthed egomaniacs"...of which I rapidly got very sick of.

    RC thats what I mean.
He was like Charles Bronsons movie persona.
He was quiet but you could tell not to f#ck with him by his body language and confidence when he wanted to be left alon. He didnt talk **** and act a fool like a Paz or Hamed he just went in and kicked ur a#s.
As far as the photographer mentioned by someone else well guess what if someone is bothering the crap out of me id smack him too.
Monzon was a kool kat who it seems at times was boiling underneath.
I dont have a problem with that but yes eventually he did lose control and what he did was inexcusable

He was so relaxed and in control in the ring. It's as if nothing fazed him.
