    I've heard enough of those stories to suggest it was just the way he was, cameras or no cameras.

    Agreed. He's actually not a lot different today.

    His relatively recent induction into the IBHOF saw him using his press time to reach out to Brendan Ingle. Why make that appeal through the press; why not directly? Probably because he knows his treatment of Ingle and his family means none of them want anything to do with him.

    He also used that press time to ask for forgiveness from the guy he left for dead in the car crash he caused. He couldn't manage to do that at the time.
