Sonny Liston follows along the same path as Ali would have. So a third fight with Patterson!, followed by George Chuvalo, Cooper etc. Question is, how far does he go before something **** s up?
Cleans house until Frazier comes up and overwhelms the 150 year old Liston who doesn't have the required firepower he had back as an 80 year old to stop him.
Not far. Chuvalo would most likely beat him at that stage of his career. Liston's motivation and hunger for the sport just wasn't the same after he achieved his goal and his age didn't help.
I wouldn’t pick Chuvalo to beat him but certainly, he is going to open the door to challengers with his lifestyle. I have very little doubt Frazier would dethrone him around 1968 if it came to it. Too much motor. Question is, does anyone get to him beforehand.
Don't know why but I don't feel he makes it to 1968 even. Maybe his 'Tokyo Douglas' would be around the corner..!
Why wouldn’t they? He was zero reward for a still fairly substantial risk after 1965. Put the crown on his head & Frazier’s team would have been after him.
Fraizers camp avoided Liston BECAUSE everyone knew it wouldve been a nightmare matchup for him. I dont see any possibility where Fraizer beats him even in his later career. His worst matchup among all HWs imo.
Of course I would pick Liston to win in his prime, but ten years after that? He abused his body tremendously, neglected training, & would’ve been around 40 by 1968. Frazier eats him alive.
There is absolutely a possibility that the Liston who lost to Martin loses to the Frazier who beat Quarry, Ellis and Foster from 69-70.
Beats everyone except Frazier, maybe Quarry or Ellis could beat an old Liston, but maybe not. I’d pick prime Liston over all of those btw.
