I'm surprised no one has said it yet, so I'll say it.

Pavlik is The Great White Hype!
A sturdy power pucher with good fundamentals, yes. A world class, elite fighter, no. Hell no! A star, in so much as Gatti was a star. But like Gatti when he stepped up against world class competetion, Pavlik will be remembered as a joke. And despite his sometimes abrasive character, Hopkins will be remembered as a great champion. End of story.

Time will tell. Let's see if he can go down to middleweight and beat Sturm and Abraham.

I don't think Pavlik will ever be a bigger star than Hopkins, not in terms of talent at least or success.

He is a great fighter at what he does; very strong, powerful, relentless and a great finisher. Technically in terms of footwork and defence he is quite poor though, he doesn't seem able to throw with his right without setting it up with a jab either. I think Pavlik, especially at Middleweight, will probably beat most challengers but in my view whenever he comes up against a slick boxer such as a Hopkins, Calzaghe, JMM (pound for pound) he'll get shown up due to his limited all round skillset and inability to adapt.

I'll always watch out for his fights and watch them though, he's an exciting fighter.

Pavlik will never be a bigger star than good ol' Bernard.
B-Hop is THE LEGEND after all.

We think it will make more money(Hop vs Roy or Joe)...beside Pavliks father said if Kelly gets his ass beat again then he will retire...that flushes your whole theory down the toilet. Hopkins is a legend... Pavlik isn't and chances are he never will be not when his fundementals are so simplistic. He may be an Arturo Gatti...but that doesnt mean he will make more money.

Look at Gatti and Floyd. Gatti was an exciting fighter...some say Floyd was a boring fighter... Who made more money? Who has the legacy? Now back on Pavlik and Hopkins... I'm sure you can see the similarites...

I can't allow myself to ridicule the mentally deficient. I draw the line at san rafael, as I see him as about as stupid and hot headed as it gets without actually crossing into ******ation.

Pavlik not having beat world class competetion he beat Taylor the world middleweight champ for god sake! A guy two wins over Hopkins, He beat Miranda rated number one in the world, He beat Zuniga, Zertuche,Locket and McKart all world rated:deal As for the Jail Byrd he will soon be only remembered as the boring spoiler that who sucked the life out of ever fight he was ever in was never in a classic and exciting fight in his life:hey

Both boring Hopkins and boring Mayweather only became big money fighters because they fought real draws in Trindad, De La Hoya and Hatton who have both big followings and exciting styles:bart

That's your list of world class elite boxers?:rofl :rofl :rofl

You might have a point if the fight were at all competitive, but after that complete drubbing that he just took, the hype machine has been completely deflated. I don't blame HBO or fans like you. Its been a long time since they had a white fighter that KO'd guys that they could promote and get behind and get fairweather fans excited about. I like Pavlik, but I'd didn't let it blind me to the deficiencies in his fight game. Hopkins and Pavlik are both stars. When all is said and done, Hopkins will be remembered as the better boxer. Get over it.

Just because you might be champion of a certain division at any given time doesn't necessarily make you a world class elite fighter, which are what the true stars of boxing are. I think middleweight is an over-rated, weak division at the moment and I don't have Pavlik or Abraham anywhere near my p4p top ten. I couldn't believe people were putting him on it before the Hopkins fight. Winning a belt is not enough. You need to defend the belt over and over against all types of fighters to prove you deserve to be called a World Beater. Kelly has not proven that. He had his chance and he failed miserably. B-Hop has and in his entire career he's never taken such a one-sided beating as the one he dished out to Kelly. What I believe time has shown were that his losses to JT (a physically gifted but fundamentally flawed fighter and Pavlik's big claim to fame) were likely due to outgrowing the weight at his advanced age. What I believe Pavlik's fight with Hopkins has shown is what I've been saying all along, that Pavlik is a strong and fundatmentally sound, but one-dimensional slow fighter that would be picked apart by elite boxer-punchers with speed that could stifle and counter his offense with distance, footwork, and angles. He is what he is and this will allows be the case unless he becomes something completely different. Luckily for Pavlik, the middleweight division doesn't really have any of those types of fighters right now.
