Every poster has biases, no matter what they claim. In my view biases are not in themselves negative, instead the issue is when your biases are not clear for other posters to understand where you are coming from.

This is how this works, I will list a list of possible boxing biases and list where you stand. I have thought of four possible biases which I believe affect posters most and lie at the heart of many debates here on ESB-- namely style bias, old generation vs new generation bias, bias in todays new fighters, and finally fight scoring bias.

    Style Bias

My bias in regards to style: I like boxers moreso than brawlers, but really prefer fighters who can do both. Thats why some of my favorite fighters are SRR, SRL, and MAB.

Old Generation vs New Generation Bias

Im both irritated with fans who put old fighters on an unreachable pedistal and fans who disregard their accomplishments. Guys like Armstrong, Pep, and SRR are as dominant today as they were in their day. If you want to slam older generation fighters, you get into the tricky business of what the cut off date is to distinguish between them.. for example I hear people rave about SRR in a head to head here agianst PBF but claim Pep doesnt have a chance against JMM, doesnt make a damm bit of sense to me.

    Bias In Todays Fighters

My favorite fighters today are MAB, EM, SSM, RJJ, Bernard, and Pac even though his fans drive me up the wall. Even though I respect PBF as a fighter, I think his out of the ring act is unbearable and so cant root for him. Generally by bias swings towards fighters who are great and fight the best, this is what boxing is about.

    Scoring Bias

My bias in scoring is for EFFECTIVE punching, not arm punching, punches which land on the gloves etc. I also favor fighters who come and get it in the final rounds, like SSM did against Oscar in their first fight. I have nothing for fighters who dont leave it in the ring and then ***** after fights about being robbed.

Your passiveness on the subject is an indication of pro-oldie bias.

My personal bias is pro-good fighters.

I always pick good, skilled fighters over weak fighters.

You must come up with some funny scores mate. Arm punches do count and a 10/9 in the first is worth the same as a 10/9 in twelfth.

Probably I go for tecnicians. The Marquez brothers are favourites of mine, so is Hopkins. I admire Jones but I am not a fan because I feel he is lacking in fundamentals (though he looks better in that respect now than ever before, ironically).

I don't have a bias in this area either; more old fighters are on my very favourite fighters list only because there are more fighters in the past than the now.

    Oh this is a good one . . .

my only bias is against stupid illogical posters who talks as if they understand what they are saying.

. . . there's one goddam poster here who is questioning the credibilty of Hall of FAME. :-(

. . . there are at least 3 or four posters here who are insinuating that HBO is paying or influencing judges to give Taylor gift decissions. :huh

    :deal :yep

Did you that HBO has done only two countdown specials for a non PPV fight? Taylor vs. Wright and Taylor vs. Pavlik. Coincidence? I think not. Clearly Taylor is nothing but a HBO hype job who has benefited from HBO big wigs greasing the hands of the judges for his fights.

I'm just kidding about Taylor being a hype job, I think it's funny seeing people write this garbage.

I agree.....most just make it up as they go. I guess HBO just picked a name out of a hat and said, Taylor is the man.

I guess that's why Merchant was pressuring Taylor so hard about whether he was gonna fight Pavlik or not (and not in an encouraging way).

I think Im very clear on where I stand. The great fighters of old that I mentioned do very well today, H2H in my opinion.

    No my scores are fine.

Its very simple really, I favor hard punches to amatuer style punching which lights up compubox numbers, and I expect fighters to closet the show.
