I've narrowed my focus down to learning more about specific fighters, as opposed to learning about history in general. Boxing's history is too deep for me to learn it in detail, and I have a passable general knowledge, but nothing more.

I haven't read anything boxing related in a while, but I'd like to get one or two Liston biographies this year.

I would say the subject of the elite fighters from each division's history (my criteria!). Compiling lists i mean, and analysing the order of the fighters

Heavyweight and Welterweight divisions, I'd say. Fighters? Probably Jack Johnson and Pernell Whitaker in terms of literature, personal interest and the knowledge I have of their careers etc.

    Eras: 60's & late 80's though the 90's.

I think I'm doing a fair job in recent posts of putting forth the idea that Lewis ranks with Ali as the two greatest heavyweight champs, and that he would have defeated Ali with that cautious boxer's mode he would occasionally fight in. The man had a mix of power and skill and size that made him far more formidable than any of Ali's opponents.

Spotted The Inside Story of... in Waterstones at the weekend and declined to buy it. Well not yet anyway. Had a brief flick through and seemed good, ended up getting a few other books though

Can you shed any light if that's the one? Worth picking up etc?
