It strikes that Calzaghes in a no win situation, whoever he fights hes expected to win.So who closest to his weight would he have to fight in which he would be consided a clear underdog?

He can't be a clear underdog to anyone from 168-175 right now.

May be a very slight underdog to Dawson but even then I'm not so sure.

    Good question.

    How about stablemate Enzo Macrnielli?

It's amazing because it seems he is the favourite against everyone fighting at 160-175 lbs, if the fight is at 168 or 175. That's got to mean something, right?

Not many other fighters can say the same thing about themselves...in fact...no one north of 130 lbs can even pretend to be in the same boat,...except Klitschko and possibly Mayweather...but the latter doesn't go up to 154 lbs...and the former doesn't have anyone fighting above him.

Calzaghe is truly unique; truly remarkable.

there is no possible way calz beats pavlik. the best thing about calz is that he keeps comming. but after he catches a coupple of pavliks jabs i bet he will slow it down. based on what i seen i dont think calz could hurt pavlik. i could be wrong but this is the fight that should be happening not against roy jones.

Well, Calzaghe is proven at the highest level and Dawson isn't. Dawson looked very fine beating up on journeymen, but as soon as he steps up to gatekeeper (with all due to respect to the evergreen Johnson) he looks poor.

Calzaghe has fought and beaten some of the best in the world now - how could Dawson ever be made a serious favourite? I'd go for Calzaghe by 116-113+.

With regards to the Dawson fight I'm going purely on the age factor here.

Calzaghe is way past his prime we all know that and you can't just write Dawson off after his last performace.

Calzaghe would probably be favourite as usual but Dawson comes the closest to being the favourite over Calzaghe at around that weight.

I agree with all of this (apart from "way past" his prime). But if the fight is made and you find a bookie who makes Calzaghe an underdog be sure and pm me!

Chris Bryd, depending on how good a couple of his performances are at LT Heavy. It would just be hard to see a guy that was IBF champ for the better part of 3 years, who did a good job of beating guys around 230-240 most of his career, will somehow be an underdog when it comes time to fight a guy around 175, I just dont see it.

Byrd has already lost to Joe. He'd be an underdog.

I still think hes only a slight underdog in this fight. He knows Enzo inside out and unless Mac catches him with a huge punch,Joe would box his ears off.:bbb

I believe it's a testament to the talent of Calzaghe (a career SMW remember), that we are having to go all the way to cruiser in order to make him an underdog against anyone.

But that seems to be the reality.

As has been mentioned, you could make a case for Dawson, but he did himself no favours during his last outing.
