I don't understand why even make a thread like this if you're not even going to entertain room for debate (which is made clear in both the thread title and the opening post)..

 

Swiss Army knife? Nah, I see Jack more as a wrench guy. Be patent, the penny will drop.

Anyway, disagree. For many years after and to this day, Johnson was definitely and justifiably described as innovative and ahead of his time and he earned those tags far more than his contemporaries - so not so weird that Jack has viably pushed through.

Besides, for this match, it’s no as if sheer size disadvantage isn’t a major factor aside from skill sets and styles -

As far as whatever the “collective” forum thinks, rather than lead or create one’s own chorus, best to let them provide their own, individual input if they’re so inclined.

 

If I was on the Lennox Lewis team, pre-fight, I'd strongly advise Lennox not to make the assumption that this would be an easy and early knockout against a primitive, who can't hurt Lennox. That would not be wise, IMHO.

 

I think that people are being far too dismissive of Johnson's chances here.

Whatever else he was, Johnson was obviously very good at not getting hit, and he had considerable success against larger heavyweights.

He fought for neatly fifteen years without suffering a stoppage loss.

 

Yes, and I’m assuming primitive Jack will have to check in his preferred caveman club, Swiss Army knife and wrench before entering the ring. It’ll just be poor Lil Arthur Gronk in there against Lewi-Saurus.

 

Between his stoppage loss at the hands of Choynski in 1901, and his stoppage loss to Willard in 1915, Johnson fought 64 times without incurring a single stoppage loss.

That is not the record of a man who is likely to get taken out quickly or easily.
