In What Round Will Calzaghe Shatter Glass Jaw Roy's Chin?

Although Calzaghe doesn't have a powerful punch I think he very well may still knock Jones out, I think I might even have the power to knock Jones out. :yep

I agree with whomever said that RJJ will be more of a problem, stylistically, than would Pavlik. Roy is larger than either Joe or Kelly and he is far faster than Pavlik.

Joe wouldn't have a lot of trouble with Kelly Pavlik and I love Pavlik.

Joe will have to work to beat Reluctant Roy. But he should beat him in the end, adding yet another "L" to Roy's ledger while putting another "W" on Joe's sheet.

That's all I care about with this fight.

I would love to see Joe KO RJJ, but it's very unlikely and it doesn't matter to me much so long as Joe wins.

 

Expect a flush, powerful, right hand to land once Calzaghe tries to do one of those windmill (girly) flurries ... and he leaves himself open to the more skilled - more superior Jones.

Jones got knocked out by pressure fighters w/ deceptive power ... and thats the only thing that Roy haters have on him ...

He's no different than the Roy that won a HW championship ... or the long reigning undisputed LHW champion ... who held every belt (other than the WBO) available in pro boxing.

 

1st he gets back the linear title ... then he redeems himself against Glenn Johnson ... then he gets a paper title --

 

i think jones got more of a chance of beating joe than pavlik have.

Roy Jones is nothing like what he once was

How can anybody say that? I just don't get it atsch

His speed and reflexes are nothing like what they once were. They were freakish, now he's a mere mortal. His stamina is horrific too.

 

What has shown a decline or deminishing reflexes?

Because he got knocked out? Both times can be contributed to muscle loss and looping power shots ... the kind that are very hard to defend and see ...

Everyone runs the risk of getting knocked out every time they step into the ring.


I think Roy still shows the same speed and and reflexes ... I don't question his chin ... I don't question his reflexes ...

He went 12 with Hanshaw, Badi Ajamu, and Trinidad ... thats 36 rounds ... i'm sure that Roy has re-conditioned himself back to where he once was.

It was never about what you think ... it was more about getting rounds and getting his body used to being a LHW again - after coming down from cruiserweight/HW and losing a ton of muscle mass ...

Its happened to many fighters losing that much weight ... its very dangerous ... it makes you lethargic ... and it makes you weak ... especially if you just lose weight instead of taking the neccessary steps.

If i'm not mistaken ... Calzaghe didn't look all that good at LHW either ... its a weight that he's not accustom too ... i'm sure he'll pay for that.

 

Going 36 rounds with Trinidad, Hanshaw and Prince whatever is not an achievement. Not an achievement that is either testament to his stamina or his performance. For a start he is very lazy in a lot of those rounds, limiting his output due to poor stamina. So how you can say he has reconditioned himself I'll never know

Prime Roy Jones knocks all of them out. A fat welterweight and two nobody journeymen. I mean come on. Whether its his age or weight draining it makes no real difference, fact is he is NOT anywhere near his peak level.

Yeah, its 36 rounds. 36 unimpressive rounds, that didn't convince me his stamina is top level, nor his performance level.

So by your logic, a Joe victory over Roy would be a great accomplishment ?

And not diminished by Roy being shot ?

 

You can't expect to go at 12 rounds hard every round ... you know that ... everyone has a period where they take a breather, given that its very tough to have a consistant workrate ... every fighter that has been 12 will tell you that. You have to pace yourself and pick your spots where you're going to be aggressive.

I never heard of a guy getting knocked out ... not taking any time off and fighting a championship fight months later ... I never heard of a fighter getting knocked out a second time then challenging for a title again ... thats another scheduled 12 rounder against a champion.

Then come back and fight 3 more 12 rounders ... usually guys who have had a set back like that -- they go down to 10 rounds and or they have a long layoff.

I think that Roy is one of the best conditioned athletes in the sport ... even at the age of 39.

 

Get a grip of yourself. Jones is not even 1/5th of what he once was. Although I think he has a better chance of beating Calzaghe than Hopkins did. Everyone's talking about Calzaghe as if he himself is in his prime. He's well past his physical prime. This makes him that much more vulnerable, espcially to someone who hits as hard as Jones.

Still favour Calzaghe to win a UD if they fight.
