In what round will Margo stop Cotto now

Either Cotto runs more or he gets KO'd earlier

fighting in the middle of the ring is not a option with those uppercuts Margs throws

 

How is Cotto going to be able to overcome his tendency to A) load up and plant his feet and throw excessively, B) stop when he gets tired and allow Margarito to land big shots at the end of rounds, and C) dramatically improve his ability to take damage and withstand punishment? How is Cotto going to do all those things - because he will have to in order to have a chance. What's Cotto going to do? Become a different fighter?

I THINK WHAT HES SAYING IS AT NO POINT WOULD HE GO TOE TO TOE..LIKE PAVLIK TAYLOR...FIRST FIGHT TAYLOR TRIED TO GO TOE TO TOE AND GOT KOD...SECOND FIGHT TAYLOR BOXED AND GOT BEAT ON POINTS...ID SAY MARGO TAKES THE REMATCH ON POINTS....COTTO SLUGGED WITH HIM AT TIMES AND THAT WAS HIS MISTAKE

 

I think Cotto needs to work on his stamina ALOT if he intends on beating Margarito.

I am a Mexican Cotto fan. I like the boxer punchers more than the brawlers(Margo). I predicted a close UD for Cotto at the beginning but Margo proved me wrong.

Margarito won my respect when he beat Cotto. My Mexican friends were over for the fight and of course they were rooting for Margarito and they said it was messed up that i was rooting for Cotto. From what i saw in that fight....

1. There is no way Cotto can KO Margarito unless he goes to the body which means he has to bring his hands down and Margarito might catch him upstairs with those viscious uppercuts. And we all know what could follow.
2. Cotto has to be able to pot shot for 12 rounds and be able to run away as fast and as soon as he lands. PBF is the best example of that. I think he would beat Margarito but Cotto would be much tougher for PBF due to styles.
3. WATCH THAT LEFT UPPERCUT!!!!! I think at one time i saw it land 3-4 times in a row. At the elite level that should never happen.
I have been saying this for a while and I think Cotto should leave Evangelista and hook up with Mayweather Sr. his defense is his only weakness and thats what he should improve. Other than that he has no weakness.
4. If cotto beat Margo in a rematch that would only make for probably one of the best trilogies ever. I kinda wish he did beat him next time around.

 

Hold up, first of all Cotto was using his jab, second of all Cotto's full fledged power combinations weren't slowing down Margarito - HTF is his jab going to do anything? Cotto tried boxing, it didn't work. Tying Margarito up might help, that's something. The problem is though, Cotto doesn't seem capable of that type of guile. It's not him.

 

I cant see Cotto trying to tie up Margs he will eat to much trying to come in just for a hug and will eat some clean uppercuts.

I liked the ref he preety much let it be a fight Cotto knew he couldnt hold on to a bigger guy he would get roughed up for no reason his best move was to punch and run

 

Well said, it should never happen, that's right. Cotto was never going to be ready for someone - anyone, who tripled up. That was always there. Cotto has been open to the triple uppercut every second of every round he's ever been in a boxing ring, and that is ****ing outrageous isn't it? There was no question Margarito would land them. Ricardo Torres could have knocked Cotto out with by doubling and tripling up on uppercuts, but Torres was a ****ing moron and threw 1-2's when he had Cotto hurt on the ropes.

 

San Rafael. Cotto either has to get superhuman stamina or tie up. I was yelling at the TV for him to tie up but he rarely did.
Its sad for me to say this but he has to fight like Mayweather would.
Margarito right now i would favor over anyone at WW except for Clottey. **** PW, Cotto, and Berto. In order to beat Margo you have to have great defense. clottey has that but his innactivity might betray him. However if he steps it up a notch he could beat Margo.
Right now i only see clottey being able to beat Margarito. PW doesnt have enough boxing skill and he sure as hell aint gonna outbrawl Margarito. Cotto might have too much balls to beat Margarito.
Berto well is green and is just Berto.
PBF if he ever came back would be the only favorite over Margo.
Clottey is a 50-50 fight to me. I rather Margarito face either DLH or PW next. They are more winnable than Clottey. And Berto well thats an easy win to any top WW right now.

 

I agree, I would also pick Mayweather over Margarito, clearly. It's like I was saying here in this forum though before Cotto/Margarito - Cotto simply never had the mobility, athleticism, and overall boxing ability to win in that type of fashion against Margarito. At one point I had to point out how much more naturally athletic even someone like Sebastian Lujan was in comparison to Cotto. People should watch the Lujan fight and then watch the Cotto fight. Lujan was exploding around the ring at literally twice the speed of Cotto, no contest. Cotto never stood a chance of outboxing Margarito. Not ever. Mayweather would make Margarito look like he was standing still. Even when you carefully examine Mayweather/De La Hoya it's highly apparent when you slow the video down that Oscar landed very few actual punches. Margarito would have a miserable time catching Mayweather. He would barely touch him. Even Cotto was able to avoid Margarito overall for the most part.

 

His tactics were sound and his execution of them was sound.Cotto fought superbly.It was Margo who ****ed up his chances of victory,not Cotto,his camp or his strategy.

 

Cotto boxed in round 1. After he got hurt in round 2(that's his mouth and nose got all busted up), his plan went out the window. The writing was on the wall after round 2

I always thought Cotto would just outbox Margarito. However i disagree with you saying Mayweather would just outbox Margo silly. Even though Margo is slow i think at some point in the fight he will catch him and unload. the question is will PBF run or keep fighting back. for his sake he better run becuase there is now way he will outbrawl Margarito.

You don't think Mayweather would outbox Margarito in clear and dominating fashion - cool. On the other hand though, you thought Cotto would be able to box to a decision over Margarito. I'll stick with my own perception on this... LOL.
