In what round will Margo stop Cotto now

Not sitting on the ropes would be a start.

 

I thought Cotto had the first fight won with his movement and combination punching. As long as he's mentally prepared for what's coming, I think he can go the distance and win a decision. IMO a rematch would all depend on Cotto's ability to psychologically recover from the beating he received in the first fight.

BTW - I did pick Margarito to win the first fight based on my belief that Cotto would eventually crumble from Margarito's constant pressure.

 

Interesting, well you were in the minority by picking Margarito along with myself, and you would be in the minority by picking Cotto in the rematch - but you're on your own this time.

 

I would have to see Cotto in a tune-up before I put money on it, but if he fully recovers (physically and psychologically) and makes a few simple adjustments, he should win a rematch.

 

What adjustments would they be? Personally, I don't see this as being very simple. Alot of what happened in that fight - alot of it, was the truth about Cotto's genuine lack of durability, true ring intelligence, and bad tendencies, all coming out. I'll pose this question to you as well:

How is Cotto going to be able to overcome his tendency to A) load up and plant his feet and throw excessively, B) stop when he gets tired and allow Margarito to land big shots at the end of rounds, and C) dramatically improve his ability to take damage and withstand punishment? How is Cotto going to do all those things - because he will have to in order to have a chance. What's Cotto going to do? Become a different fighter?

 

Having fought the fight he did, Cotto still had a chance to win if he would have lasted two more rounds. In the rematch, here's a few easy things he could fix:

-he tried to clear his nose in the late rounds, an amateur mistake for dealing with a bloody nose. I know this is small, but had he avoided this, it would not have interefered with his breathing.

-in the first fight he seemed to think he could knock Margarito out, which probably lead to him planting his feat and unloading excessively. Now that it's clear that Margarito can handle Cotto's firepower, I don't think Cotto would make that mistake again

-Cotto did very little body work in the first fight. I suspect that Cotto neglected to do his usual body work, because Margarito's head was such an easy target. It's clear now that Margarito's head can handle Cotto's best punches. If Cotto goes back to working the body in the early rounds, it should slow Margarito done in the later rounds.

With that said, the most important factor IMO is how the loss psychologically affects Cotto. It's always difficult the mentally recover from a knockout loss, especially a fight as brutal as Cotto-Margarito I.

 

IMO, I can't see it.

 

Cotto has not lost to boxers that beat him in the amateaurs...in fact
he has mercilessly beat them.

Expect the same....he will beat Margarito....by late KO or decision.

 

It will be a different fight....Cotto will pressure Margie this time.
If you noticed in the fight....when Cotto attacked Margie backed up
and stayed abay.

Cotto has mercilessly beat the boxers who beat him in the amateaurs...
they were confident they would do the same to Cotto in the Pro.

Margie will go down!!!!
