I have Pavlik making B-Hop not show up for the 9th round. Pavlik by TKO 8 in a fight B-Hop starts officially looking like he should have retired before this fight ! The are limits to eternal youth and Pavlik will show us that B-Hop has finally exceeded his limits at age 43 !!
Calzaghe didn't have the power to properly affect B-Hop. He was slapping him around and that tired Hopkins big time. Freddie Roach admitted that Hopkins looked too tired in between the last few round of the fight. If a guy like Pavlik throws at least as many punches as Calzaghe, but with power in both hands, then I firmly believe Hopkins doesn't have the legs to avoid him for 12 rounds, neither the kind of output to slow down Pavlik !
But I wouldn't want to see a great fighter like Hopkins being knocked out on the floor like what happened to RJJ... I see it more as Hopkins stopping because he knows he's in big trouble..
As much as I don't like the matchup, or any Hopkins fights for that matter, I concede that Benard does have the skill, savvy, and experience to possibly shut down Kelly. Pavlick is new to the big fight scene, and deserves credit for victories over Taylor, but we've not yet seen Kelly in a situation like this. My guess is that Kelly will rise to the occasion and outwork Hopkins , but Benard will expose any flaws Kelly might have and exploit them to the fullest.
Calzaghe is more agile and his footwork in the Hopkins fight was outstanding. Hopkins will find more spaces to hit when fighting Pavlik. He's a superb defensive master and an excellent tactician, Pavlik is way too predictable to be able to catch Hopkins at will. B-Hop still packs a punch aswell and times his shots to perfection, Pavlik was nearly KO'd by Taylor at middle and he's only an above average puncher, so I would like to see how he handles Hopkins power.
Aren't you the same guy that chastised Kelly for trying to fight older men, yet you pick Hopkins to beat him? atsch Slap yourself.
What tired Hopkins was the fact that he had to hold Calzaghe so many times to negate the offence. Hopkins is too cunning for Pavlik. Pavliks chance is having a higer workrate than Hopkins, but Bernard is the better man in the pocket, and that is where most of the fight will be - to much frustration for Pavlik. Pavlik will throw more, but land less. We could see controversy decision in favor of Pavlik, since there is more money and interest in him winning it.
Good explanation but I don't think Hopkins can throw enough at this point to seriously bother Pavlik and Hopkins doesn't have one punch KO power. Pavlik will use his jab much more than Calzaghe did, therefore will keep Hopkins away most of the fight because of his reach. I see Hopkins countering every now and then, the firt 6-7 rounds but then he will fade a little like Cotto did against Margarito. The excess pressure and accumulative output from Pavlik will eventually be B-Hop's downfall !
It wasn't Taylor's power that bothered Pavlik, it was his speed. Taylor's handspeed, especially with his combinations is underrated. Not to mention, when he decides to use it, he has a very good jab. Hopkins has power but not concussive, and he doesn't throw blistering combinations like Taylor and appears not to have the stamina or will to finish and opponent off when he has them hurt. See his fight with Calzaghe.
