His durability and pain tolerance were incredible.

    Probably, Thrilla, Shavers, or Holmes.

For me, the Cooper fight. He was genuinely buzzed in that one.

Aside from the obvious ones, Norton 3 was a rough fight for him

There was no fight in the 60s for sure where he was ever hurt more than once, and that as well was seldom. Aside from what was mentioned, he was hurt the most in FOTC imo, and was beaten the crap out of for the last four rounds of Norton 1, and was also rocked numerous times in the second fight as well. Otherwise, I have nothing to add.

Ali was too durable for his own good, In hindsight we wished he had retired before he had gone too far but his legacy is the reason we know his name a cruel fate indeed. RIP Champion.

Tbh, I don't think Ali was ever overly hurt against Norton, just found him a nuisance to deal with.

In terms of buzzed i am in FOF's boat. In terms of overall pain and bruises etc the first Frazier fight would be tough to top. Both went to hell and back.

That's a decent description. The Frazier bouts were more grueling.

FOTC- Ali was always caught throwing his weird uppercut time and time again flush against Smokin Joe (Eddie Futchs plan). Oddly the Greatest never seemed to learn to block a left hook properly and resorted to different means of neutralizing it.

The FOTC reminds me a lot of Schemling vs Louis 1- A case and lesson of not being able to be adaptive, or understanding the science. For Louis it was his tendency to hold his jab low, and not bringing it back in a defensively responsible position and being timed. For Ali it was his weird right uppercut leaving him defenceless whenever he threw it.

He really was hurt in that one. Enery s ammer had him walking to his corner like a zombie.

One thing that stands out in that fight, is when the last round ends, Norton really screaming at Ali and then looking crushed that he hasn't won.

Two completely different scenario's, career stage wise. Louis was still on the way up while Ali was on the way down tho he did improve a bit on the first Frazier fight once he had some more rounds under his belt.

He certainly did ok in subsequent battles even if he was past his best which obviously ended when he went into exile.

In the 60's his extra agility, speed, endurance and reflex meant he rarely had to throw this so called weird uppercut as he was simply so evasive. Age let his defense down as he relied on movement and reflex. Even then he could still beat monsters like Foreman.
