In your eyes who won Ali-Frazier III?

Frazier was winning the fight going into the last round on my card.

 

And in conclusion...HUH?

 

That makes you a hardcore Frazier fan or...

terrible at scoring fights.

Ali was up comfortably. And was on the verge of being stopped.

 

And Frazier was winning on NONE of the official scorecards going into the final round.

I'm a fan of both men, and Frazier certainly took some rounds decisively, but he wasn't winning the fight.

Had he come out for the 15th, I think Ali would have teed off on him like he had in previous rounds and stopped him. If he didn't have the energy, he would have used the ropes to rest here and there and won the round in an uninteresting fashion.

Frazier was fighting blind by that point and Ali was not going to get caught with a lucky punch and get KO'ed.

 

There was more than meets the eye at the close of Thrilla.

Frazier's left eye was useless, "scratched to pieces" by steel that entered the eye from a speed bag he was working in 1965.

The swelling of his right eye was such he could no longer see the one-two's coming. This is clear watching the final round.

It is no urban legend. Futch did the right thing. Frazier was done.

Barking-mad respect for Smoke for fighting such a great professional career WITH ONE EYE!

 

I thought that when it came to their trilogy,Ali was at his best for the second fight between them. And that he was better in the first fight than in the third. With Frazier,he was obviously best in their first go,and a little better in the third than the second. That's why imo,fight 2 was the most one-sided.
